I have been a welder for 18 years and learning how to use pulse setting on a millermatic 350 seems pretty stright foward, but I can't figure out how to get a good vertical up weld on 3G test. I have read the manual, read all the articals on the net,and spoke with the guy's at miller. So is there any other places I can find out about technique/settings for vert. up?? Thanks!!

Reply:In general, for vertical-up, I would turn up the arc control (i.e. sharper, narrower) and set the arc length (trim) control as short as possible without causing excess spatter. Usual admonishments for vertical-up, pause at the sides but go fast across the middle, point the wire horizontal or slightly down. As many will tell you, get the miller Student Packagehttp://www.millerwelds.com/resources...d=211630&qty=1which has a GMAW-P guide book, as well as lots of other useful info. I can't help you with actual settings as I do not use the 350P, but learning the effects of arc length and arc control will help you greatly in "dialing it in".JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:As stated above, turn your arc length down and start by adjusting your sharp arc. If the sharp arc don't help, then move your ARCL a little and retry the sharp arc. It is a lot of trial and error. It is usually just a simple thing. It took me a week (off and on) to figure out my pulse settings on my Invision 352 MPA Plus. Come to find out that I had too long/too thin lead going to the feeder and caused my problems (100' of #1 lead and ground). I shortened up the leads to 25' and I run vert/overhead with no problems.
Reply:Maybe a dumb question, but why do you need to run pulse on vertical up? are you trying to spray transfer?Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I have a test and it has to be vert. up. Trust me it's just for fun.
Reply:Pulse vertical up is so nice. You can literally just hold the gun in one spot, move to a more comfortable spot, and continue with a minimal showing that you stopped. And the best thing is that you know your throwing a good amount of heat since you are spraying. In some ways it can be considered cheating because it is a lot easier to make good looking beads, and has a very short learning curve as long as someone shows you how to set-up the machine.
Reply:O.k. So is there anyone that knows how to set up a miller 350P for a 3/8" plate vert.up weld?
