Hee's a trailer I finished up last year late. I had to move it yesterday for mowing and remembered I never took a pic of the finished product. Somewhere there are a ton of pics during the build but I never got around to resizing and labeling and all that. I'm bad about that, tons of pics in the original camera folder, no names, just numbers. Here's the few I had done for whatever reason I did.Pic of the A frame coupler, the sheet bent for the fenders, one ramp, one ramp tray, Attached Images
Reply:Then here's a couple of the Trailer nearly done and painted and a couple of the trailer completed with decking. It's 16 foot long and 76 inches between the fenders. Just a couple inches narrower than the average full sized vehicle. I did that for a reason. Selfish, yes, but everyone is always looking for a car hauler. I didn't want to be the supplier. It hauls what I want, all sizes of building materials, long iron and my tractor. Oops, noticed I have a couple barely over the file size limit. I'll fix those and finish up quick like. Reply:Here we go. Maybe that's why I don't do much of this. Never get it right . Attached Images
Reply:Nice stout looking trailer!
Reply:Nice looking trailer, well thought out, well built. Looks like it'll do you proud for years to come. Good job! Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:Thanks guys. I did one quick coating of linseed oil, but will try to get one more this summer while it's good and hot. The decking was a regular catastophe. I casually bought this green lumber on a sunday afternoon planning of getting it all taken care of Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday in the proper stages. Boss called Sunday night and I needed to make an emergency trip out of town Monday morning. I went out in the dark and put on what linseed I had, threw these things on the trailer uncut, threw some beams across it and C clamped it all down. When I got back home Friday night I took the clamps off and twisted lumber went every where. I had a heck of a time trying to salvage what I could.
Reply:if you are 76" between fenders, then you are over 80" over all width.  I think you need to add three red lights in the middle rear to signify over 80".  I don't know if that is a state by state thing or national.  otherwise it looks like you got your lighting covered.

The emotionless guy who did the inspection never said a word and wrote it up as good to go.
Reply:I like it Sandy. Nice work.
Reply:Good looking trailer Sandy. It's hard to find any "factory made" ones that are built using channel iron.  Most of them are are angle iron around here.Yours looks better than most factory jobs I've seen, and well built for your intended purpose.  Just curious, the 4th pic looks like red primer on a few parts.  Did you sandblast prior to priming, and how's the paint holding up so far?  What kind of paint did you use? Thanks for posting!
Reply:Looks like a good trailer.I've had good luck with treated lumber for flooring if it's well braced underneath. They say the newer treating compound is corrosive, but I've had no trouble with it."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:nice trailer im going to make one sooni bought the plans from northern toolswhat type of primer do you use Attached Images
Reply:Originally Posted by SandyI Have this bad habit of hitting anything that might set around for awhile with a primer coat. I don't sandblast, but either before assembly, during assembly or afterwards everything gets hit with a wire wheel. I don't wait till the end. As I get idle moments I'll wire wheel something. Or for warpage control, instead of weld weld weld, I'll make myself do some clean up first.I used some Benjamin Moore enamel. I don't really care for it alot. When it hardens it makes one heck of a good shell but it doesn't really stick well. If you hit something on there right now with a moderate metal to metal blow it'll pop a chip and primer will show.

Reply:Ed, I used some primer called "Rust-Shield" this go around. It sprayed good, tacked good, covered good and stuck good. Now whether it realy is any good, time will tell I guess.  It's not one I am familiar with.
Reply:Really nice trailer Sandy.I've needed one for awhile but I'm torn between building and buying.  With all the trailers around here you can buy one for less than what just the materials cost.Great job.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Looks pretty nice Sandy.  That's not that salvaged galvanized PoCo transformer mounting channel short pieces you once mentioned using to make a trailer for a (kind of heavy) tractor, is it?Duane,You can buy a trailer, but they usually look half-a$$ed on the build and assembly.  Porous welds, cold welds, reinforcing that half missed the member it was supposed to reinforce, etc.    At least around here from what I see most of the time.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Good lookin' trailer Sandy. Nicely done...I looked but couldnt tell from the pics, How do you secure the ramps in the carry position and also the loading position?  I know some use an angle to 'clip' over the rear frame...Danny; About the trees, I think the 3 sided panoramic view was just showin off.....nice place Sandy...
Reply:I will agree that the only reason to build one yourself is to get something "special". I will probably save money on mine if you only count materials. Adding my hourly rate would make it the most expensive trailer in the world.I did look for one for a long time and just did not find anything that was not a POS.There is a reason they can churn 'em out so doggone cheap

Reply:First: excellent trailer, very nice work.Second: i had a few detailed questions if you dont mind. im currently contemplating building a trailer myself. i was wondering what the capacity of your trailer is, and i cant tell if you built it out of angle or channel. i was also curios about your wheel/tire combo as well as axle combo. and i was curious if you put electric brakes on the trailer? hope im not diggin to far, i just like to ask questions.I break things for a living...
