started a trailer for friend

I started a trailer for a friend that doesnt have alot of money to spend on a store bought trailer. The guy helps everyone out that he can without asking for anything in return. He'd give you the shirt off his back even if  it was his only shirt. I have alot of scrap metal and an axle from my other trailer I'm still working on, since I'm putting another axle under mine. He's going to help me with some concrete work for trade for the trailer. It's 4.5 ft. wide and 8 ft long , tubing is 2"x4" x1/8" thick. orange tubing is 1 1/2 "x 3"x 1/8"l ast pic is my son helping clean out the tubing,he loves spraying everything Attached Images It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters

Reply:I'm probably just a worry wart...but I'd add some triangulation...maybe in this area??Its looking very nice! Reply:hillco i was think of the bracing also like you 've drawn. the tires are off a camper and are actually  e rated so they're rated at 1500lbs each.MAC702 not expecting much weight it's just the material i had on hand. It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters

Reply:hytek,I think mac's comment was related to the kind-of rearward position of the axle, which would mean that a lot of the weight of the load on the trailer would end up on the hitch as tongue weight and not as load on the axle.Ahhh, running the numbers it looks like it is actually nicely laid out there.With an 8 ft long trailer, and a WAG (Wild A## Guess  ) on the axle 3 ft from the back end of the trailer and the distance from the hitch to the axle of 10 ft, that actually comes out as textbook perfect 10% tongue weight for an evenly distributed load on the trailer.  Triangulation braces from the tongue to the frame would be a good thing.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
