Redesign () works great. We're cookin' with gas now boysThis is a combined welding and machining post. I do a little of both, and I'm master of neitherGonna take 3, maybe 4 posts. For starters this is the final lever design with the leverage changed to a pull force instead of a push force, and the load points changed.I've done my best to salvage, and rework, the metal from previous designs. Cut, reweld, cut, reweld. Makes for messy lookin' metalThe lift (8" ground clearance on the cutting edges of the plow), and a perspective of just how LONG the lever is. Reply:Pawl design, and an interesting restrained weldThe flat was bent using heat, then trimmed back to match a shimmed/positioned piece. The clearance between the strap is pretty crucial.Weld was preheated, peened (fancy word for beatin' the B' Jesus outta it), and post heated. No cracks, and it held the tolerancesAlso, I handle the divet at the end of a weld by backing off so that I don't eat more metal, then filling in the divet with a second weld. The divet might be as much as 20% of the total profile of the shape. Don't wanna weaken it by leaving a void Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:You finally slew the dragon. Good deal. You're gonna have the pin held in place by spring tension and pulled by some fancy rod and lever like the old timers used to do it?

Reply:Looks really good, Samm. I can see that took a lot of thought and planning. Are you planning to leave the one way in the ground even when you make the corners? Reply:Hi Samm. nice to see you are back on the puuuutter,Job is looking great,Good welds and even better engineering, (love the wheels) Only thing I would be concerned about is the length of the lever, something might just stress and fracture with that thing acting like a bit of a reverse pendulum shaking about over rough terrain, Just a thought, what do you think! Reply:one step at a time way to go sam.. looks good Hey did you teach Clarance to use the camera ? or he learn just by watching you take pictures
Reply:mla2ofus...... I guess I'll leave it down on the corners. Olin (the dairy guy) said he couldn't recall ever lifting one when he used one. I'm a little hesitant about it, but if it works it'll be good. If not, I guess yours truly is gonna be hopping on/off the tractor a few times during the day I sure wish I had experience with one of these things. I think the discs will come up somewhat when the furrow wheels run up out of the furrow at the end of a pass on a left turn.Gordon... The other levers are just a bit shorter (on the rear wheels), and they seem to take the pounding. I might have to put a hinge on the new lever so it'll store out of the way when transporting the plow. It might interfere with the tractor on a tight turn.Prop Doctor........ See the tripod in the background of one of the pics?? Give the camera to the pup, and he's liable to run off and bury it"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Just a brain fart - take that long lever and make a cheater bar to use on all three levers, then you're rid of Gordin's pendulum.BTW - what is this exactly: Attached ImagesA butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
Reply:maybe the lighting for his outdoor camera shoots???
Reply:Maybe thats whats left of the lights after all the wrench and parts throwing was over during the hight of samms frustrations on this project!Oh!Hey samm!Nice work, glad to see your getting it figured out! #1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:Samm, I sure hope this works out for you after all the time and effort you have put into it. Maybe you should consider a laptop and wireless so we can celebrate with you immedeitly after the sucessfull fitrst round. We expect to be the first to know. Good luck.
Reply:Hmmmmm, I figured you to be alot older Sam.Anyway, I've been following along, all the way, nice work. I just need to see a pic of it at work, to really understand it.
