Old Age, Alzheimers, Or Just Plain Stupidity?

I took the most beautifully machined piece of metal since the Hubble Telescope, and turned it into the equilavent of a tin can waitin' to be kicked down the roadThe sector has to stand off from the base plate enough to give clearance for the lever to work, and the metal that joins it to the base plate has to be out of the way of the pawl thingy where it rides next to the plate.  The outside of the sector doesn't matter, it's free.The front bolt hole on the machine is in absolutely the worst place it could beSo anyhow..........  I finally figured out how to shim the sector to give the proper standoff.Now I'm puttin' it together.  Breezin' right alongBetween the bolt hole/plate, there's a stack of metal.  3/8 flat, with another piece of 3/8 further out, and finally 1/2 flat to match the sector.  Like a sandwich.Somehwere in all the hubub, I forgot how the part was oriented in relation to the machine.  IE, which side faced out, and which side faced in.  I was just concerned about providing a surface for a fillet weld on all three pieces.  I didn't feel like beveling and welding every piece on the edges.  A time saverI'm tempted to blame this on the refreshments.  Kinda hot today, and lately I've gotten a taste for orange soda.  Usually it's Orange Crush, but yesterday I picked up some Sunkist.  Now here's the kicker...........  Orange Crush is caffiene free,  Sunkist ain't  I snarfed down 3 of those puppies this afternoon.I'm higher'n a kite after all this sugar and caffiene.  (I'm usually a water dude)So, I'm leanin' towards blamin' this on the evils of Sunkist Orange SodaI'm so fed up with it, I refuse to rework the part.  I will, to my dying day, walk by this thing and grit my teeth.  It'll work fine, but it's just not RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!  It's a matter of ASSTHETICS.  ROFLMAO.RE the pics.......  As usual, this is a build from the machine out.  Sector clamped and temp welded in place, and all other parts welded to fit.  Final bevel, tack, and weld, where the part meets the sector will be done last.  This helps to prevent distortion.  It also allows you to adjust dimensions and fit before committing to a final weldup.I'm tellin' ya..........It was the sodaThe final pic (before the usual photo of the QC dude) is how the last piece of the sandwich should have been cut.  THE FILLET'S ON THE WRONG SIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! $%%$#$#@!&^ Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

It's the male DNA to screw things up. Women never screw things up.......because they never make anything.  Everything we make is a 'one off'. Mistakes are inevitable. NASA built a bazillion parts before they got the Hubble right. Heck, they had to send a dozen guys to the moon to get the Hubble right. Reply:Yep!Don't care for them myself either.For that, I would have preferred to use one of them thar small cut off wheels on a circular saw, and set the depth of cut on the saws base for that.Lots safer!#1.
