This morning I brought home more steel. This time a 10 foot piece of 2 1/2" pipe. It's about to drive my wife crazy. So I need some project ideas before she throws my "junk" away! I figure if I can make something nice she won't nag me about my scrap heap. Help!

Reply:Now that's a wild Art Deco barstool ........Cut the pipe up into shorter sections, weld 'em together in a bundle, put a crank on one side and mount it in a tripod. Instant gatling gun yard art!
Reply:Windchimes.I think the longest piece on this was about 30 inches. They sound good, so maybe the wife will like them. Although, they do require a big tree.
Reply:Now THAT'S a wind chime!!! Wow!
Reply:Thanks. 2.5 inch OD tube. The ring everything was hanging off of was a hanging pot rack that was in the dumpster at work. There are some good calculators for tuning windchimes online. This one is at friends house, and took the two of us to hang assembled. It is heavy. Sounds good, but the "clapper" chain is a little too short. I have more pipe to make another, that is what made the JC's welding question jump out. I have more similar pipe and need to make a second set. No where to hang them at my house, though
Reply:How about a short flagpole?A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
Reply:I thought that top ring looked familiar, now I know why. Is that tow chain you're hanging it from? Hopefully it's on a REAL sturdy beam......Hmmm.................. make a gallows pole type stand, and hang it near the fence to annoy the neighbors ........ Reply:Here's what I am thinking to do with the pipe and some square tube. I will cut the pipe into 1" lengths (a lot of cuts!). Then stack and tack them together inside a frame to make a room divider. My wife has always wanted one between the living room and the breakfast nook.
Reply:am i the only one who is seeing the obvious? just get rid of the wife! hehe, just kidding.there's gotta be stuff that your lady hordes as well.
Reply:Approximately 120 cuts. That is going to be a heavy room divider. What are you going to do for feet? Seems like it would look pretty cool. How is the condition of the inside of the pipe? You might end up doing a lot of clean up.Post pics when it is done.
Reply:Oxy - I'm working on it!The pipe is in nice shape. Still thinking of a way to do it.
Reply:make a project for her as well, try to embed glass marbles and other cool stuff in it kinda like stain glass but not all stain glass. |
