Hi all,I'm doing some welding industry fact-checking, so I decided to go to the experts (you). 1) Can the experts here please tell me what the most lucrative welding sub-fields are, and what the approximate hourly rate range would be?2) In the US, what would be the typical hourly compensation range for a certified stainless pipewelder working with 10 years experience on some of the most critical jobs? Thanks in advance for your helpLast edited by BillB; 09-13-2011 at 01:12 AM.
Reply:You have to find a place willing to pay first. Even some of the best welders get paid sh*t. lol
Reply:You might check your local library for sources.  National census in most countries collect such data and it is available.  Just ask a librarian.  They will give you job descriptions and wage ranges in different parts of the country
Reply:In my area southern Wis. expect $7.00-10.00 to start and you will not make much more over time. It's turned into a real rust belt here.High unemployment and no jobs! Thanks Obama for bringing the jobs back from China!

Reply:Very sound statements Mr.Mopar. Mr Obama is not helping anything with the fear he strikes in to the mind of business. All that said Americans  for all my life time have been turning their backs on their neighbors in search of the cheep crap from foreign lands. To the OP any wage info you get here will be subjective at best. You won't gather enough metrics to learn anything. Better check with the LOC or NLRB or the CB all of these agencies collect endless amounts of data.
Reply:Obama, lol  hes got somebody fooled.
Reply:Is the State Senator could help your area in creating jobs?

Reply:I know what you mean, I did my apprentiship, when to school and after some years got level A certified and red seal and I'm making $43.00 an hour hour with pension and medical.Manufacturing welding jobs I guess are not the same. Maybe those wages are for the manufaturing sector, which you dont need to know all of the welding science.
Reply:very true dantheman, i guess it comes down to weather your willing to put the time and effort into all the schooling required to make the money.
Reply:Hey BillB,You will find the wage rates will vary quite a bit as to geographical area, experience level, & application/processes needed/used. I'm just east of Pittsburgh, PA & there are at least a half dozen openings always around here. Most seems to be shop work with fab & some pipe work available. Seems the going rates are from $10-$19/hr & for all they require, is an insult. It's the area...... doesn't look like it's gonna go higher unless you really can impress them somehow. Most offer "some" bennies, although may differ with union vs non-union positions. I have turned down 16 offers this year....... they don't pay enough for me to fight those insane highways into the city each day. Post your area & maybe one of the members near you can suggest something. Good luck.....DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:The most that I've heard of in Aerospace welding is $48 per hour with benefits. Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:I make $38/hr and $85/day in the U.S.  I don't know what kind of jobs you others are working, but if you get out of the fab shops and hit the road there's plenty of money to be made...  If you want to make money as welder you have to be willing to travel.  Also, I don't work outages, I work new construction so I stay employed for long periods of time.SA-250DLincoln Pro-MIG 140 w/spoolgunVictor Journeyman O/A outfitWP-26, WP-17, WP-9 TIG torches run off my SA-250Metabo grinders and all the other stuff...
