Tractor Lift Arm WeldingI have a tractor 3 point hitch arm weld on replacement ball I need to weld. I had picked it up a couple of years back knowing I would one day need it and that day has finally come. The descriptions of all the ones I have seen say they are forged steel. Im guessing the arm itself is forged steel also.I know it would probably be better to just replace the arm, but by the time you pay shipping it would cost a small fortune and I have the weld on ball ready to weld. Ive seen them for years at tractor dealers, so I figured it must be a common practice thats why I picked up one.I was figuring on making the initial root pass with 6011 and then filling in with 7018. Would that be okay? Then, does it need to be preheated and post heated? With the stresses that will be on this I want to do it once and do it right. Can you guys help me with this?
Reply:I would cut old ones of grinde slight bevel on arm weld with 7018 .Weld good tacks on both sides to keep from moveing around.Let cool on their own. take arms off of tractor first.Balls maybe stiff for alittile bit because of welding. I have made arms and fixed arms with replacement end.
Reply:Thanks,I figured somebody here had the experience. |
