Question...Can I MIG titanium? I was looking online and saw that you need argon for the gas, which i have as I can weld aluminum with my MIG.
Reply:Yes, Titanium can be MIG welded, but as with any type of Ti welding, the cleanliness and inert shielding is more critical than any other welding. You have to protect the molten pool as well as a good length of completed weld until it has cooled. If exposed to atmosphere while hot enough to form discoloration on the surface, the metal can become very brittle. The inside/backside needs to be backpurged, and a long trailing shield is needed, or better yet weld in an inert chamber.
Reply:Crap, I dont want to know what a roll of Ti wire cost. Seems like it would be more practical to TIG, just for the fact of using filler rod vs. buying of roll of wire.Lots of toys.
