i conceived this project in half an hour and built it in half an hour more. farmersamm is resurrecting depression era plows. paul ztfab is building roll cages that look like a swiss watch. me...my plastic catbox scoop broke. i cut a piece of 24 gauge, drilled some holes, hammered it into a scoop, bent a piece of 1/4 rod into a handle and brazed it together. as you can see the box is empty so it works.i gotta get a life... Reply:ZTFab, your a classic! You know.Me thinks this is missing something though!Something shinny! How about one of those little shinny silver bells tied to the top, for those times the kids decide to use it to try and catch the fish in the fish tank with it, the little bell will let you know when someone else is using it.Like the wife trying to fish the bone out of the stew pot with it!Or the babysitter using it to....well, nevermind. Reply:Next project: spring-loaded extension handle with a weighted base ....... Weldbead, you already HAVE a life ....... you're a welder. Whether you're building a bridge, a trailer, a skyscraper or a pooper scooper, you're still welding, no matter if you consider it work or non-work. I agree with Sam - you're practicing technique, you're making something out of nothing, you're being creative instead of throwing money away. Don't run yourself down - there are plenty of people out there who are more than willing to do that for you. Here's the score, dude: at the end of the day, did you enjoy doing it? Was it fun to watch the concept drawing in your head taking place under your hands? And when the project was finished, did you just stand back and look at it for a moment, and say to yourself, "Man .... I built that"? Were you proud of it? I bet the answer to every question was "yes." ....Last edited by SpyGuy; 06-08-2009 at 02:17 AM.

Reply:^^-- I built a bike for a kid down the block from me almost 25 years ago. He didn't have one, and my father was always bringing home these wrecked bikes for me to repair, so one day I fixed up a nice BMX bike, walked it down the street, and gave it to him. Wasn't any hassle for me, since I was already repairing and building bikes at the tender age of eight, a good portion of which were donated to the police department to give to kids who didn't have any. Well, I was visiting my folks last year, and ran into the kid, all grown up now with a son of his own, still living in the same house. He told me that not only did he still have that bike I gave him, but that he'd just given it to HIS kid on the boy's last birthday. He remembered it all those years, and thanked me again.Originally Posted by weldbeadi conceived this project in half an hour and built it in half an hour more. farmersamm is resurrecting depression era plows. paul ztfab is building roll cages that look like a swiss watch. me...my plastic catbox scoop broke. i cut a piece of 24 gauge, drilled some holes, hammered it into a scoop, bent a piece of 1/4 rod into a handle and brazed it together. as you can see the box is empty so it works.i gotta get a life...
