I just inherated some Victor Journeyman Oxy/Ace torches and they have alot of wear on them.  It looks like they have developed some dark varnish on the torch body possibly caused by handeling the torch without gloves.   It can be lightly scraped off to reveal the nice bright brass underneath.  I was just wondering if there was a way to remove this varnish and then polish the brass?  I know its kinda pointless because they will get some hard use and i'm sure get dirty again real soon , but i'd like to restore them to there original glory before i thrash them again.Oh, just for information sakes it's two 315c torch bodies, one cutting attachment, and various welding tips.Hoping some one has some cool trick or novel technique.
Reply:there are various brass cleaners out there you might could try.   When i have had brass torches reworked I think they bead blasted them.  Not shiny but cleans them up well.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Thanx guys.  Is there some monthly maintenance that i should do to keep them in working order, other that clenaning the tips and checking for leakes or cracked hoses?  What's your prefered brand of hoses?  These came with dayco.  I know dayco is a really good brand, but is there other good ones out there also.  I'll be doing alot of field work and the hoses are bound to get heat rotted and cracked.
Reply:I have always used Dayco with good luck.  I honestly have never tried to keep a torch clean (exterior)  As long as it cuts clean I don't care what it looks like, but in my line of work not much is pretty anyway, lolI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:If you use a torch enough, it will shine .
Reply:James, not sure what you mean.  I have five brass torches (Air Products & Victors) in my shop and on my welding rigs that get used everyday all day, and none of them hold a shine anymore?I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
