We installed sideboards and a adjustable flow board on this spreader.  It turned out pretty nice after a bit of paint. After looking things over a little, on the next one, I will try to fabricate the slider guides out of one piece so it looks a little cleaner.Sure is nice working on these things before they're full of poo. Reply:What's that brownish coloured material?  I recognize the orange as painted steel.  Is that brown stuff some sort of new alloy ?    "A winner isn't someone who doesn't lose, a winner is someone who doesn't quit."
Reply:Looks like conveyor belt on the floor.Only ones I've seen, and they're really old, have two chains and an angle connecting themLooks good, but I'm not really sure what I'm seeing.  Not much of this stuff used around here anymore."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:It's for a local vineyard.   So it has to be small enough to fit down the rows of grapes.  Later this summer they want to get together and see if we can't come up with an idea on how to throw the pie's out the side so they land at the base of the vines.  Anyone ever seen anything remotely similar to this.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:When I worked in a feedlot, the ones they used were big truck mounted units.  But they all used the same principle as Brainfarth's.  Fling it straight out the backGclamp has a good point. If you baffle the spinning wheel right, you might get the bulk of the crap to go to one side.  But I'm not sure it would be all that efficient.  Some would go where you don' t want it.Ask the vineyard owner if there would be a problem having the manure directly over the top of the root uptake zone.  It might be a little harsh/strong.  I'm really out on a limb here, because I don't know anything about the plantsLast edited by farmersamm; 06-12-2009 at 04:03 PM.Reason: extra letter"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Does it have a lever that engages the beaters? Put a baffle in the end gate and let the floor drag push it out just the sides. I'm with Samm here what kind of manure and how it is will effect the plant so I'm not sure if I would go with an application to close to the plants. a good rule of thumb is a handful of chicken manure is equal to a shovel full of cow manure and most farmers when talking shovels are referring to scoop shovel.

Reply:I looked over FSI and didnt see any that were side delievery.  Getting into hoppers with augers sounds like it could be an expensive route.I think I'm going to try to draw something up on cad and see what you folks think of it..On another note, while I type this, I'm running a big burn job on the CNC plasma.  I heard something kinda funny, so I look up and a piece had flipped up and blocked the plasma head from moving further. I ran out there and stopped it and saw that the head was leaning about 20 degrees off vertical.  Fortunately it didnt try to move farther than what it did or it would have broke it completely off... Reply:Here are some shots of a fert spreader we have. Material is dragged along the base of the hopper and dropped onto the spinning discs. In this case, it's lime. It's ground driven and the rate of discharge from the hopper is by means of a sliding steel plate suspended on a chain. The discs are driven from the PTO (540 rpm). Later models are hydraulically driven.Mmm, another project. To fit beneath kiwifruit vines and the orchard canopy I'd like to narrow the axle up and also would have to reduce the hopper height.I think you'd be able to control direction of spread by adjusting where the manure drops onto the discs. In the photos it's designed to give a good wide overall spread.Hope it might help.Disc on right goes anti-clockwise and one on left goes clockwiseIf material was dropped onto discs behind the shaft, more would be driven sideways out towards the vines. Always align shafts and tension belts accurately!Material is dragged under discharge plate. Feed rate is controlled by shortening the chainthat the plate hangs on. Chain sits in a forked bracket and can be adjusted link by link.Material conveyor chain in hopperHolds about 1.25 tonnes of lime."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for."
