I'm looking at getting my first welder. I have about a dozen holes in the floor of my car from where I tore out brackets that were spot welded into place. I would like to get a TIG to I can do some aluminum eventually. I remember the guy that put my cage in telling me he had to use a MIG when putting the floor plates in. So the question is would it be possible to fill the holes, 1/4" diameter, with a tig, and patch up a small 3"x3" rust hole in the floor with a TIG, or should I just get a MIG to start with that stuff and get a TIG when I need it?
Reply:Can't beat mig for body work.
Reply:A mig would be quicker and easier, but to answer your question, yes you can do body work with a tig.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I have about a dozen small holes to fill where I removed brackets that held the seats, seat belts, etc. I have some brackets and stuff I will need to make for other various parts too. The cage is currently an 8pt, and I'd like to up it to a 10pt and then do some work on the back half too, including tubs. Basically lots of stuff. Its not running and is a pain to take to the shop where I had the cage done initially. I really want to learn to weld too and enjoy doing everything myself. I think I like working on the car more than driving it!
