Reply:This is going to be hard to explain, but let me try......  Imagine if you had a grill where the grates were inged at the back, so you could open it, through the meat on, then close it, like a fish griller.  Then, at the back, take a 2 inch long rod, say 3/4" or 1" and weld it to the center.  That "rod" can travel up and down a slot in the back.  Whn you are ready to flip, you would have to lift the whole thing up, then rotate it, then drop it back down to the fire.  Make sense?
Reply:I'm picturing a seperate rack not part of the grill. About like the shrimp racks that you flip over. Those just use loops of wire or rings at the back.
Reply:Kinda like a burger rack, where you sandwich the patty in between two grilles, then flip as needed.

Reply:I built one a while back for a guy. Like Sandy said, rings work well for hinges. You want a bit of slop in it, since both side will be 2 - 3 " apart holding the birds. You can put 1/2 round on both ends long enough to sit on both edges of the grill. Then when you flip 'em, you have to slide the bottom over, and you almost need 2 people. The one I built was for a cinder block pit. He wanted the pivot in the middle, so he didn't have to lift all that weight (about 30 chicken halves).  Don't put it exactly in the middle though. It needs to be a little heavier on one side of the pivot point."We live in an age when unnecessary things are our only necessities. "   - Oscar WildeMaxstar STL150Eagle CPM30 Bender
