Reply:I tried one weekend to repair the oil cooler out of one of those large fancy motor homes. It was for the father of a famous actor (won't say who) though I never met him myself (I was more a subcontractor on that job). It didn't work primarily because they'd routed the lines wrong at the factory and the cooler was getting full pressure instead of just return pressure. I couldn't fix leaks fast enough. By the time they figured it out the factory was involved.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:I helped build a cage for a tiger in Arizona (Phoenix) for Amanda Blake who played Miss Kitty on Gunsmoke.I also grew up in Tombstone Arizona and sold news papers to many famous people that came there.I worked at OLD TUCSON which is where they filmed many movies including the show High Chaparral, Judge Roy Bean and met and ran errands for MANY actors. I was about 17 at the time and movie stars were everywhere at OLD TUCSON. Charles Bronson filmed Death Wish (part of the first one) there and he was pretty cool, Kirk Douglas flipped my mother the bird for asking for an autograph so my dad threatened to whip his butt but the security people stopped him. There is a photo of my dad and mom with Bruce Dern that you cannot see Bruce's left hand, my mom claims it was on her backside (probably not) and it sure pi$$ed off the old man.

Reply:I built wheels for a couple of Leno's cars. This check was for a set of 27 inch clincher rims for his 1907 Stanley Steamer race car. A couple years later he was driving it on the L.A. freeway and had a flat . . . needed a replacement. The car was featured in an episode of "My Classic Car". While Leno was lying on his back trying to light the burner, it flared up and David Gage said, "you know Jay, mustache wax is flammable!" He's the real thing . . . not a Hollywood phony . . . really likes his cars and gets involved in the restorations. I wonder if he ever built the steam-powered motorcycle?jimLast edited by 4sfed; 08-24-2011 at 01:06 AM.Reason: typoDynasty 300DXSmith He/Ar gas mixerMM350PHobart Handler 120Smith LW7, MW5, AW1A

I dont think I have ever welded anything for anyone famous, but when I was 18 I had a job delivering pizzas in leeds alabama and I delivered several times to charles barkley's mom. on a sidenote, I knew a guy who got drunk at a hotel in atlanta and stole some country singer's tour bus from the hotel parking lot, drove it a few blocks to another hotel, got out and stole the shuttle bus from that hotel and put it back in place of the tour bus. I bet they dont leave keys in them anymore.
Reply:Can't think of any "welding" I've done for famous people but have been a hunting guide for a few. A few months ago, while on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, some dude sits down next to me and introduced himself as "Danny", we chatted for a while and he finally asked me if I knew who he was and i said No, am I supposed to? He then tells me his name is Danny Glover, and i still didn't know who he was, he got quite a kick out of me not knowing who he was but was a real nice guy. Same kind of thing happened in the business lounge in SLC back in December but it was Jeff Burton, only he didn't care if I knew who he was or not but the guys he was with sure did, they were like, "hey man that was JEFF BURTON you were talking to", Once again, I had no clue who or what he was, and once again, he was a real nice guy.6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers

Reply:Toby Keith played at our local Casino many moons ago... he was not well known yet. His stage man brought me a speaker which needed some simple soldering (welding?) . I did the repair in 30 minutes, he tried to pay and I said 'nope no way, enjoy."Monday mid morning his huge bus pulled up on the road outside double parked. Toby and the Mgr ran in, handed me an inexpensive Ovation which read " Thanks much for saving the day, Toby Keith". Then they were gone. I put it on eBay because nobody local really knew the fella much yet. Right away, a guy from Dallas asked for my ph#.. called me and wanted to know if I would ship it Fed Ex Express? is that right?.. ( they come get it NOW and fly it to him on their next run ASAP)... spendy I suppose. Sure I said... and that was done. The wife wrote me a long long email thanking me for selling the guitar to her hubby. Seems she was blotto fo Toby Keith... adored his every wink etc... and her hubby, to be a great guy, had got it for her Birthday.True love conquers all, lucky hubby in Dallas was a hero and hopefully adequately rewarded by her. Toby became a big big star...and that promo Ovation guitar, signed and all is probably worth more now.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:We live about 10 miles from Owasso, OK, so we hear about Garth Brooks/ Trisha Yearwood "sightings" all the time. We were in a Chinese buffet one saturday evening in Owasso, when Garth and his daughters came in to eat. He was bombarded the complete time he was trying to eat his dinner by people wanting to meet him. I wouldn't want to live like that myself. I was up at the buffet line once when he was too, he said "how are you doing", to which I replied "fine, and you" which he said "good". I will say what I witnessed, and have never heard otherwise by people that have run into them, was he was very nice, very normal acting. He didn't seem bothered by the constant badgering. It would drive me insane very quickly. Funny thing is, the Chinese people that were working, I don't think had a clue who he was. They seemed puzzled by the whole event. |
