Does anyone know the material of the tubing made for these folding chairs?I thought they were aluminum but it stuck to a piece of magnet. I was planning on cannibalizing some chairs and use the tubing for project. Has anyone successfully welded these tubing?Thank you

Reply:Hey qdn,Always check unknown material with a magnet as that will answer a lot of questions. I have repaired both steel & aluminum tubing chairs like that & have used that material for projects. Since it is thin, your best results will be to use a plug on the inside, a collar on the outside, or both if the strength is needed...... you know there are some fairly large butts that tend to exceed designs of weight & material stress. Reply:Steel. Aluminum that was that diameter would not be able to support the weight unless it had very thick walls and was well designed. Plus the magnet sticking to it is just another sanity check
