Hello. Quick question. I am wondering if there are any issues of welding a brass hinge (about 1/8" thick) to 14 gauge thick 304 stainless steel sheet?Len
Reply:I've welded both...But not to each other...Try 309 for filler..Maybe try brazing it instead????...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Assuming this is not intended for much structural strength anyway, I might also try Silicon Bronze filler.
Reply:Stainless hinges can be had in all shapes and sizes from any door hardware supplier. That would uncomplicate things. You only need to be 2% smarter than what you are working on.Lincoln pm140hacksawa big hammer

Reply:Braze welding ? I was taught in my (welding) apprenticeship that brazing is NOT welding, it is "Hard Soldiering", unless it's brass to brass[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:That's why Spanish is so much easier. Soldering, Brazing, and Welding are all the same verb: "soldar"Or does that make it more confusing?

Reply:Braze it.Or get stainless hardware to go with the stainless, and then weld it or braze it together.

Reply:How about just using JB WELD, its at least got welding in the name, if i was to want to make a brass hinge mate to stainless, I too think i would just bolt or rivet it, but I would perfer to just buy stainless hinge and weld it, this way things match up and look pretty.

Reply:Silver based brazing alloys work very well for joining dissimilar metals and wet out on stainless steels well. Harris SaftySilv 45 or 50N will work perfectly for this application and will make a joint that is very strong.
Reply:Stainless can be very difficult to braze, it is often done in a vaccum chamber. Heat is important.... that is not to over heat the material._________________Chris
