I have an old evinrude outboard that has the twin fuel hose from the tank. It's so old it keeps splitting at the connections. One for air pressure from the crankcase and one for fuel. My question is how would 3/16" O/A hose work w/ the gasoline? Price for the fuel hose is $3.30/ ft. O/A hose is about 1/3 that and I could get it from LWS instead of online and having to pay shipping charge. Reply:I have one of those only it says Johnson on it. I can't say for sure but I have a sneaky feeling that the hose isn't rated for gasoline and will get stiff and crack. It might make a season though and you could just replace it next season. I believe I would give it a try for no more than it would cost for one time to see what it does.I might just get enough gasoline rated hose for two lines and some small tie-wraps and make a dual hose.Last edited by Oldtimer; 10-08-2011 at 06:59 PM.
Reply:i have had a couple of those motors, got my fuel line at a napa store for about 75 cents a foot. i added a fuel pump to one of them and was able to use a modern single line tank.
Reply:Man, I would not want to take that chance. You could either get stranded farther than you would like to row, or worse, if it leaked up by the motor and you had a fire!!! Not too far to run! Get two pieces of fuel line and tie them together, or get the proper stuff. Better safe than toast!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Use "fuel injection hose" instead of standard fuel line. It's about 5x the price, but will completely withstand ethanol blended fuels (which O/A hose, EVEN grade T, will not). |
