Ok I'm looking to buy a new tig machine for both home and professional use, I'm just starting to put together a plan for starting my own welding business, my plan eventually (couple of months maybe) is to buy an engine driven machine to mount on a trailer, I want the ability to do aluminum in the field once I buy the engine driven unit, but I have an IMMEDIATE need for a tig in the next week, I was all set to buy a new Syncrowave 200 but my thought is to buy an inverter machine instead so that I can plug it into the engine driven unit later, and I think I've narrowed it down to a Lincoln Invertec 205 or the T/A 185,  any suggestions which to go with? Will both run ok on an engine driven? If so the T/A seems to be the way to go cost wise, but what about actual performance between the two? Or should I go ahead with the Syncro purchase and worry about setting the engine driven up for tig later? Ryan

Reply:strange246, i have the ta 185.  so far i like, and everything i have read about has been good.  i have always been a miller man, but this time i switched only because of price.  i saved enough money between the 200 and the ta 185, that with $500 more i can get a plasma cutter. i am also just a hobbyist. good luck. it is a tough choice.

Reply:For what it's worth, I have a T/A 250GTSW that has a problem.  I took it to the only welder repair shop in the area and after keeping it for a month they told me it was off brand as they hardly ever see T/A welders and that while they could probably fix it, it would take them so long it would cost more than they could reasonably expect me to be willing to pay.  I won't buy another T/A machine for that reason even though they are good machines. Of course any brand could become obsolete and unrepairable - I bought some Linde welders the year before they became extinct.  Miller is the most common brand sold in this area and is easy to get fixed.I recently bought a new Miller Dynasty 200DX for $2200.  It is a fantastic machine.  I think the dealer had it in stock for two years and gave me a good deal to get it off his hands as this was $500 below the going WEB price.
