For those running shops....do you offer pick up and delivery of equipment?Do you handle the trucking in-house or hire out?AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:Hey Al, when I weld my chicken ladders, I get paid to pick up the material and deliver it. It's not really profit, but it pay the expenses for doing so.By equipment, I am guessing you mean a bobcat or excavator or such. I would prefer they pick and drop. However, I have a boobcat trailer and I do have access to a lowboy. Although, the lowboy option is usually more work than it's worth. Having to drop the dump, drive to pick up the lowboy, drive to pick up the machine, drive to my yard to drop the machine, drive to drop the lowboy, drive back to the yard to hook up the dump......... I will do it, but I will charge for it. If the machine involves permits, I usually pass.Hope this helps."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Darn Stickman I was gonna have you do my hauling. I can haul materials and pretty good sized equipment. I was more wondering about the industrial jobs where DOT, permits, rules and regs....you know all the stuff that keeps China and every state besides Illinois in business. There's sure enough crap to keep track of with bending and burning metal let alone how to get it here and there.I drove flats many years ago. I remember the headaches. Can't imagine what it has to be like nowadays. Is it worth the hassles and expense or let somebody else take care of it?BTW Stickman...That's how I know them as Brown & Lambrecht. Many years ago when I was a field supervisor rigging large motors, pumps, etc. they did all our lowboy-permit loads. They were always on-time and totally trustworthy with any equipment we could get on their trucks. Reply:yes, we have boom truck, a 24' single axle flatbed strait truck,  a single axle international truck tractor with a 30' single axle flatbed trailer.    A Kenworth tandem axle day cab with lowbed trailer and tandem axle 45' flatbed. Its all factored into the overhead but when the situation arises on a time and materials job hauling gets billed at $100hr min. Also several different trailers that will go behind the pickup trucks.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:Al, what would you be hauling that requires permits?
Reply:sorry yes all hauling is done portal to portal.     Boom trucks are $125Hr. and lowbeds are $150Hr  both with 4 hr. Minimums    Bear in mind that this is in a very high overhead area.   The cost of living here is ridiculousVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I charge the field welding rate when delivering and picking up.  But that's only if it can fit on the skidloader trailer or the pickup bed.  Otherwise it what ever my lowboy guy or my roll back guy is going to charge me plus my cut.   That why half the work I do is in the field.  Its cheaper to bring the welding rig to the work than to bring the work to the shop.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:Dualie 150 an hour seems fair. When I hauled for the Cat dealer we got 300 bucks to go 40 miles to the town I live in. Then another 300 to go back and pick it up. If we needed a permit, well it got higher. Ive been hauling equipment since I was 18. If Ive learned one thing about trucking in that 20 plus years, it crazy, and expensive!Learning one rod at a time

It's what I been looking for for a long time. Just so we don't confuse everybody...Angie is a representative for Partsmaster. She was out at our place a couple weeks ago to let me sample some of their products. I'll admit I was skeptical, having never heard of Partsmaster, but I was very impressed with all their products.Definitely all top of the line stuff. I'd been looking for a good wire wheel for the 4 1/2" for a long time. Tried the Wellers, Dewalts and few others. All of them wore away way too quick for me. So I ordered one from Angie and it's proving itself.
