Im obviously new at this so what the technique to do this? Do you make a puddle and move the puddle to the joint? do you need filler?

Reply:The puddle should be made at the joint to minimize the HAZ whenever possible.  On something like a tee/saddle joint, you will want to focus the heat on the base or flat part, and wash it up to reach the thin edge, as the edge will heat up/melt away on a faster basis.  I always add filler, some out of habit because I deal with a lot of thin alloys that are prone to cracking, some from necessity.  With even a slight gap in fitup, fusing a tack can be difficult if not impossible.  The only time I will not use filler is if my position or configuration simply will not allow me to have both hands free.
Reply:normally when im doing butt joints ill just fuse it if the fit is good, just start in the middle of the joint and get it hot fast so it doesnt pull away (if its thin material)Theres also nothing wrong with adding filler, if there is a gap ill usually start on one side and build up a puddle and push it across with the filler.t- joints it usually helps to start on one piece (thicker piece if they are different thicknesses) and push it on to the other.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:I got this from Zap. When tacking make the tacks small so that when you go over them they melt in and don't give you a big hump there.Thermal Arc 185 TigHTP 200 MigCraftsman O/A1942 Bridgeport Mill12 Ton Hyd PressConsew Walking Foot
