Up for viewing is a section of SS 2x2 1/8" tubing with a 16ga section fused on the top. I am trying to figure out why the weld is not nice and "stainless", but rather dirty after welding?I am quite sure I am not cooking it...100% argon at 20cfhunder 100A, maybe 80A?Everything cleaned well before welding. All this "stuff" will wipe off with a damp rag...Me!
Reply:Try around 14 SCFH..And the smallest cup you have..Remember about how much stick out and the sharpness......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:You might try turning up the heat a bit and moving faster too...Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:So is the crap ok, the welds look fine when i wipe it off?Me!
Reply:Nope, something in your process isn't right.TIG should come out looking very-very clean, mostly just a tiny bit of heat oxide discoloration on the metal.Problem areas could be bad tank of gas, bad gas hose/fitting, too much or not enough gas flow, etc.
Reply:Ok set the gas to 14 CFH and can fuse just fine.  But maybe I am using less heat than before. Ok, I have adjusted the gas flow way up and way down and no change.I am having the worst time when I need to add rod, then I am getting this crap I have cleaned everything including the rod, no change. I have tried as little heat as possible and turned it up to 120A and moved faster still no change...So them I figured maybe I was pulling the rod out of the gas?But the last bead I did I kept it close and still have this problem.304SS 1/8", 308L fill  1/16"More suggestions?Me!
Reply:Pulling your filler out of the gas shield between dips ?Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:Let's see a pic of the backside of the weld...Are you purging the backside?Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:1/2 inch should be alright as long as it's in front of the cup and low/close to the workpiece. 1/2 inch if you raise it could take it out of the gas coverage.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:I think I got it!I believe I was pulling the filler out of the gas.  I looked at the end of my filler rod and it was also dull and gray... Ah... So I ground the end and and tried it once again. It worked!I don't know what happened the in the first pictures? they were fused.  so what went wrong then?Me!
Reply:You are doing great.  More wire will be your best friend.David  Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:would cleaning the filler wire also help?http://datingsidorsingel.com/
Reply:Did you use filler on the welds on the flanges mounted inside the square tube?  Or did you just fuse it?  It looks like a pretty tight/blind weld.
