I'm working with 14 ga "C" & "Z" purlins and need to weld them together.  Most recommendations are to use 6010 rod.  Why use a rod that deep penetrating and fast freeze?  Won't it burn thru?  And why do they call it deep penetrating and fast freeze?  I don't understand the purpose.GrindWelder,  Making bad welds look their best !
Reply:6010 is used because it burns through the zinc oxide layer on those steel studs.  6010 can burn through if not careful, and it is deep penetrating and a fast freeze.  It means that it can melt the base metal and deposit filler material very deeply.  Oddly, it can work on thinner metals.  Because it is fast freeze you can dab a bit and pull away and it will solidify very fast.I've only used .035 innershield on those steel stud members.  It's quicker, cleaner, easier and stronger.
Reply:yep 6010/6011 works well on perlins. You have to move fast. This is one place that vertical down is your friend.
