I got some more time in on the TIG today and posted some photos of my so called progress.I also watched the DVD by Ron Covell "TIG Welding Basics" which helped a lot by watching his technique.Photo information:no-filler-1:1/8" MS 11 Gauge, 125A, 3/32 Tung. I am not sure if the bead is large enough, but on the backside there was minimal blistering along the whole weld, so I would assume the heat input was good.no-filler-2:.083 MS, 3/32 Tung, 90AI am not sure if the bead is large enough, but on the backside there was minimal blistering along the whole weld, so I would assume the heat input was good.filler-1:1/8 MS 11 Gauge, 125A 3/32 Tung, 1/16 FillerWhen I started on the right, it appears I had a good start from looking at the weld and back side, then I got a little to hot or not enough filler to cool the puddle and then it looks like I went cold or too fast towards the end.filler-2 and 3.083 MS, 90A, 3/32 Tung, 1/16" FillerLooks like too much heat on the back side maybe too large if a tungsten for the material.  Not quite sure. Please critique and let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!Last edited by MicroZone; 09-01-2007 at 05:34 PM.Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Slow down...Steady as she goes!!Try to make every dip the same...Put a straight piece of metal about 2" from where you want to run a bead as a "fence"Follow along the fence to get better at going straight..You'll get it ..You will.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hi Zapster,Actually I scribed a line into the metal.  When I started adding filler I needed to find a way to keep the line in sight.  I found a way, but still it is the holding of the hand.  You can see on the runs with no filler, straight as an arrow...  The filler rod can get in the way, but I am working on it.So you think my travel speed is too fast?  Which photo? Thanks!Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Looks good.  Maybe a little less heat.  The zig zag will go away with practice.  Maybe a piece of soapstone or chalk to draw the line.  Its easier to see.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
