bought some welding rods at yard sale last weekend there are several diffrent rods some i am familare with and some i have no idea what they are for. mabe some of you are familiar with the numbers 7018-1   11018-M   one has no numbers just a name   nicromang. i am use to 7018 but i havent seen 7018-1 before.  i was just wandering wat they were used for.
Reply:I think the -1 means it can run on AC.  Is it big rod?  3/16" ?11018 is for alloy or higher carbon steel.  It may weld nice.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:all rods are 1/8 and 5/32 any clue abought the nicromang it has a blue flux on it.
Reply:Nicromang is the name of an austenitic manganese steel electrode marketed by Stoody, aka Thermadyne.
Reply:what kind of steel would you use nicromang on
Reply:11018 follows the same rules as 7018, 8018, 10018, etc.  It's just over 110,000 PSI tensile strength, whereas 7018 is 70,000 PSI.It is also far more absorptive of the atmosphere's moisture.  Where 7018 can be out for a few hours before needing to be used or reconditioned (to be legal), 11018 is about a half-hour.All the rods you found should be used for noncritical applications only, as they have been improperly stored for too long to be reconditioned.
Reply:11018 runs nice on AR, and T-1 steels used on construction equipment.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I believe the '-1' on 7018 indicates that the charpy test is done at a lowwer temperature than standard (maybe -50 rather than -20?)
