Reply:with the crank, it should be stable enough to take a thick top.  bottom heavy is good in this application"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Nice, very nice ...  Plasma cutting on the top and the lettering?  Brake drums make good stable bases, as do rotors and even rims.  I agree with getting some loose parts together and whipping up a batch of these for the car shows - a lot of guys would be interested in buying "car art," especially if you did some pinstriping on them.  You might even be able to convince a few of the roaming pinstripers at the shows to lay down some lines for you.Mo' P'ar - More Power. When I was still living back home, we had a mini United Nations in our driveway, so I can't really do any dissing without mentioning something I've had!  The list was something like this:'63 Chevy pickup with a 283/TurboGlide'68 Plymouth Fury III with a 318'67 Ford Mustang with a straight-six 150Both a '63 and a '73 Volkswagon Bug (mine), with 1300cc & 1600cc, respectively'78 VW Rabbit diesel'00 Dodge Dakota with a 318'84 Ford Escort.  Recently went back to visit the folks, and discovered Dad had traded in the Dodge and picked up a '08 Toyota Tacoma.  Me, I've got a '97 Dakota Sport with the 318, and the '73 Bug.Last edited by SpyGuy; 07-17-2009 at 12:48 AM.
Reply:Somebody's gonna say something about the relatively narrow brake drum.  I don't think it's an issue. This is a cafe table, not a pool table"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Red, I was at a junkyard back home in California, and here's an idea for you:  They had shop chairs made from bolting Cadillac spindles and axle stubs to a wheel/tire filled with cement, then welded on a car seat with the "captain's chair" arms.  The footrest was an old steering wheel they'd chopped the center out of and welded the arms to the post.  Talk about a custom shop stool!
