I am not currently happy with my insurance company over some insurance from another company I had.   So I went shopping for new insurance.  But after talking to 25 different agents, I only got two real 2 quotes and both seem skechy.  Everyone key saying No!!! or had some many excultions that it didn't cover anything or would state because I do certain kinds of welding they wouldn't cover me.  That no one wants to insure a general welder, only people who just weld one thing only.  Its almost become joke. I would have guys offer to cover me to build 50 story buildings but not cover me to mount a tool box on a dump truck.  Or would cover me for railings, but only on a ground level.  I told them I also will become a parker hydraulic hose dealer shortly and told me they wouldn't cover me for the welding.  WTF!!!So who do you use for insurance?  Please give companys and some contract info.  Thanks.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers

Reply:i had a general contracters/carpenters liability for @1800$.then when i got set up to do welding also i asked my insurance company.Ther bailed, but my broker got another company that would do it....after a lot of form filling.covers general repairs and structural stuffmy liability is $3300 pre year now, but the only exclusion i have to put up with is no tow hitches.i can build any type of trailer, but i cant put the hitch on!!what is life without some risksG
Reply:I'm going to check on this too, but in the mean time...  Ask your local Nationwide agent about Scottsdale Insurance Co.  They insured me for $2 Million for pressure washing and roof cleaning when no one else would.  The policy was only $700/year!
Reply:i "think" it's scottsdale that i have now alsoG
Reply:I'm covered through a local insurance broker with Nautilus Ins Co and Great American Ins Co.  Premiums are $2k per year, and going up.  I don't know if they'll cover me next year; but I'll worry about that in 10 months.I'm pretty sure my coverage is higher than typical because all I do is mobile welding.  The policy covers structural welding, heavy equipment repair, and general fabrication.  The policy does not include my vehicles, but does cover all my equipment plus $1M liability.  The deductible is $1K, if my memory serves me correctly.I had to talk to 4 or 5 agents or brokers before I found reasonable coverage.  Shop around.  The best coverage isn't always the most expensive.  Talk to other weld shops in your area and ask who they get their insurance through. That's what I did, and what ultimately worked for me.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Also having trouble finding an insurance company in Florida..
Reply:well if all else fails contact LOYDS OF LONDON. they will insure anything. as far as florida goes you may as well forget that one. i personally would not even try and insure a radio flyer wagon. all they want to do there is bend one over and no grease or even a lick behind your ear, just a dry ram it to you. most states have a contractors bonding program and insurance also. plus if you are a sub contractor have a lawyer do a contract for you to make who you are doing work for to carry the insurance.WELCOME HOME TO ALL VIET-NAM VETERANS
Reply:as and insurance agent (medical, not liability) I can only give 1 bit of advice. USE A BROKER! you're not going to pay more for the insurance, though you may have a service fee. It's worth it. and here's why. 1) they know whats available, 2) the can mix and match. meaning get multiple carriers involved to make sure that you're completely covered for EVERYTHING that you're likely to need. 3) you make one stop, they make 50. let them  do the work. its in their best interest to get you the best coverage possible. the happier you are, the more likely they are to get leads. If you don't like the broker, or you get a shady feeling, move on, find one you like and who is on the up and up. Just like in any business there are guys who want to take advantage. Make sure that all the coverage's they are trying to set you up on are reputable companies. You might not have heard of them, but that doesn't mean they aren't a good company. Just look them up when he offers them to you. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:You could also double incorporate. have all the equipment owned by a holding company. that leases it to your primary work company. and charges you a management fee equal to any profit after paying yourself. a minimum salary. So if you get sued they get an empty shell. but you would have to talk to a lawyer.
Reply:Insurance is ridiculous period!    I have 7 mil liability,  vehicle coverage and a FLAWLESS TRACK RECORD of over 50 years in business.   with the liability, vehicle and workers comp (Never had a single comp claim) its still $1650 a quarter.   My advice NEVER GO DIRECT!!!   always through a broker, and never settle for anything less than A rated insurance.   I had Scottsdale insurance but cut it 25% by going with CNA insurance.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
