i bought about 200lb of some different rods. They look to be left out in a big plastic box but dont look that bad and aint rusted. Some of them do look a little bad but not to bad. Palco 720,750,700,720, with blue and red stripes says high strength alloy, 808Certanium 701,707sp,702, 100 for grooving, beveling, gouging, and cuttingBowmaweld 25140, 25250 (Cast Iron)West Alloy 578A Couldnt find anything on this rod. Not sure what the details are on it. Anybody know??Alot of other types in there not sure what else though. There were some others in there in packages that were really little cast iron rods. I know a couple of the Palcos said they have a flux coating that dont draw moisture, atleast thats what their website said. But what about the others will they be real bad about chipping the flux off cause of moisture issues or any other issues.  I only paid $35 for all of them so dont think i will loose much Anybody got any tips on how to use the cutting rods or are they even worth messing with?Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:What you have are "maintenance & repair" electrodes, often used by in-plant maintenance departments etc. They are proprietary numbers and not generally made to AWS specs.Certanium 701 & 702 are general-purpose steel rods similar to 6013 or 7014. they are made to run smoothly on AC welders. Certanium 707sp are stainless electrodes. They work OK but since they are a proprietary formulation I would not use them where a specific 3xx electrode is required. The Cert. 100 cutting rods are just plain awful, a 6010 soaked in water works much better. The others I know nothing about, but many cast iron rods are nickel alloys, so those may be worth more as scrap than you paid for the whole bunch. JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Well all i ever use the stick welder for mostly is to weld on farm machinery. Besides yesterday i had a service call to a cotton gin to weld up a hydraulic line that had the gin shut down. But i figure they will work on farm machinery.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
