I bought a 8ft stainless workbench from sears to do all my welding on.  Its a very sturdy, nice and neat setup, with a pegboard backboard and overhead light.  Im not sure what grade the stainless is, my guess is something lower than 304, maybe 409 as its slightly magnetic.  My question is would it be OK to weld a stainless washer to a corner to attach a ground clamp?  I do alot of automotive exhaust work and the bends and lengths of some of my work makes it hard to attach a ground clamp.  Sounds like a newb question, but I am aware the closer the ground, the better.  Just curious if it is feasible and worth it to make like a little easier?
Reply:That would be just fine, I would suggest getting a nice large washer so you have a good surface area for the ground connection. another good trick for grounding awkward round parts is go get a length of copper braid from an old lead and wrapping it around the work and attaching the ground clamp to that.
Reply:I have the same bench. I just mounted a vice in one corner, bolted through the bench top & can ground to one of the bolts from the bottom. then vice & table is always grounded miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
