Hello Y'all.Just had this delivered this morning.A dryrod II type 1I picked it up off of e'bad, gave a whole $30.00 for it!I knew it was a mess, but I hadn't a clue just how bad it really was, and being the kind of person that I am, and I can't turn down a bargain, especialy when it involves another project to work on!The seller claimed it had been tested and worked good, and there was no mention of anything else wrong nor missing!I sent him an email, basically called him a liar, it couldn't have tested good, the wiring was burnt and was unusable in its present condition! The wiring had been wired wrong causing the ground wire to burn, it had a really bad dent in one side, it was missing the bottom cover plate and the paint just looked a mess!Sorry no during fix up pics, I get started on something and can't stop myself sometimes! I made a cover plate, got most of the dents out, fixed the wiring and gave it a coat of paint! Now all I need is some new stickers!Oh!I tested it, and it works great! And heres the pics of the results! Reply:Plasma cutter to gut the sheet to size, and then I just did the snip and tuck.Took me a few tries to get it to fit right, and I still managed to oops on one corner!I plan on taking it back off, Mig the corners closed and paint it too!Since its thin guage sheet steel, I figured it might last longer that way!Priced a replacement from the company, and they want $35.00 for it.#1. Reply:how many watts is the heating element? I've thought about building one that suits my tastes, but haven't really looked into it much. It's just an inner shell with a heating element wrapped around it, insulation wrapped around that, and then an outer shell isn't it?
Reply:Yeah basically! It has a tube shaped core with a bail inside for lifting the rods up to make them accessible. Add a thermostat and some electricity, and you would be in business! This one runs on 75 watts! To make a cheap one, you could use a section of 10 inch stove pipe with a cap to go on each end, and a 4 inch section for the core caped at the bottom, some fiberglass insulation and foam insulation in the top cap and you would have one that would be about the size of the dryrod II type 2 oven!#1.
