Hello everyone-Have enjoyed looking at the various projects and posts here for a couple of years now.  I am proud to finally have something of my own to post.  Thanks to all for sharing so much information.  I am constantly amazed at how much talent and knowledge there is on this board.  Would appreciate any constructive criticism.  Unfortunately there are no welds to show seeing as how no one wants to see welds on things like these.  Just as well because my welding still needs a lot of work.Thanks,TriangleP.S.  Built the table to auction off for a scholarship fund.  Also to try and "showcase" my work and see if there might be an opportunity to peddle some items here and there. Reply:Dayem, that's a nice table. Great. Is the top etched steel or some other material? Again, that's nice.

Reply:The top is 10 ga that I painted with a Patina process.  At least that's what I think you call it.  It's a blue gray base coat with Pewter, Mocha, and Copper Patina layers sponged on.I clear coated the whole thing with about 3 layers of rustoleum clear.  Does anyone have any suggestions on anything better to use to stop the rust?  I think it will be ok as is since it will be inside.  I sprayed the base with a muratic acid copper mixture and let it sit overnight.  Then clearcoated it to hopefully seal it.Glad I'm slowly overcoming troll status.  Will look for a plug for that big hole in the top also!
Reply:Sorry, I'm a little slow, but I thought a troll was someone who posted things trying to stir the pot or incite some sort of heated debate.  I was just trying to get some feedback on my table, get some ideas, suggestions, etc.  Haven't ever posted before but figured this was a good way to break the ice.  Anyway.

Reply:That's a really neat looking table.  Nice metal treatment"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I build a lot of tables as you can see from my old posts.  I sell a lot through interior decorators, some through stores but most to people who hear about me from satisfied customers. It's slow getting known but it's worth it as it pays better than regular welding and isn't as hard of work. You should definitely continue on with it as your table looks awesome. The design is good, finish looks good and the overall look is very appealing. In my area I would put a price of $800 to $1200 on it, depending on how long it took to build. If there is no rust involved in your finish you should have it satin, clear coat, powder coated. The guy I use would charge about $80 for it if it needed no sand blasting. A great finish to do this with is Gilder's Paste. You can get that finish and 1000's more with it. It can be clear powder coated over. That way it will be good for out side as well as inside.Oh, don't fret over tanlediver, he's teasing. He's really a nice guy any very sharp. I've learned several things from him. Welcome to the forum.P. S. What did you use for the trim on the inside of the circle? it looks like handrail.

Reply:Tanglediver.........My take on the whole thing was the "lurker" aspect.  The trolls lurking just below the surface.  I thought it was a great joke, but I think it was misunderstood.  Gotta love the InterwebA finely tuned, razor balanced, cutting edge, sense of humor isn't appreciated much these daysAnd if you were referring to the Tolkein Hobbit gothic style of things, it's still funny. If the OP gets his undies in a bunch, well....................Anyhow, just tellin' ya my impressions"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Thanks to all for the kind words. Bob-That price point was kind of where I was hoping to be, around $1100 to $1200.  I had way too much time in this one to even make money at that price, but it was a learning experience and I built a ring roller, home-made scroll bender, and various other jigs.  I think I could do well selling a few at that price now that I kind of have my ducks in a row.  I actually donated it to a scholarship fund to be auctioned off and it brought $2000, but I realize that's a little skewed since it was for charity and was an auction.  I had three people approach me after the sale about building something for them.  Win win for me, $2000 in scholarships to be given away and future work. The inside of the circle was a complicated process.  Probably could have found a simpler way to do it.  It is a piece of 1/8th by 2 rolled, with 1/2 square  rolled and welded in to hold the upper piece of glass.  3/4 inch sq tubing rolled and welded in the very bottom with another piece of 1/2 square rolled on the inside of it to hold the bottom pane of glass.  I made it kind of stair stepped down so the bottom piece of glass would be 1 1/4 inch less in diameter than the top piece so it could be dropped in from the top.  Hope that makes since.  If not I could try and make a sketch if need be.  If I was going to build several of them I would have to simplify this drastically.I appreciate the tips on the finishing as well as the encouragement.  I will definitely use that info on future projects.  We've got a nice powder coating place not far from here.Tanglediver-I didn't take offense at your troll comment.  To tell you the truth I was feeling a little guilty at having gleened so much from this board for so long and never contributing before.  I was just thinking the term troll was maybe innaccurate.  Will try to appreciate the sense of humor a little more in the futureAgain, thanks for all of the positive feedback.  As a side note, I am a full time rancher and that is where the brand theme comes from.  I do welding on the side here and there.  I have always had a bit of an artistic side and have thought your welding work is only worth so much an hour but put an artistic angle to it and get enough quality work out there and you may be able to name your price.  Adding in the brand and personalization aspect seems to help too.  I put the table in with my brands on it with the offer of building the buyers brands and attaching them.  The family that bought it lost their grandfather a few years ago and bought it as a memorial to him.  Grandfather's brand is in the middle, Father's on one side, and son's on the other.  I was pretty proud that they thought enough of it for this purpose.Cheers,Triangle

Reply:DID SOMEBODY SAY RANCHING??????We don't call it that around here unless it involves a couple of sections, and bein' a little guy I definitely don't call it that  More like runnin' a few cowsStuck in the mud and manhooooer on a 100 degree dayGotta put my thumbs in the straps of my overhauls.  The ol' loader was built in my bad ol' extreme whipping daysIt didn't all end well, but good enough.  Clarence was really entertained by the whole episodeSorry for the hijack Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Dang, Samm, I've lived here so long I'd forgotten there is dirt that deep to sink in. First time it rained after I moved here we pulled off the road and were stuck! The wheels were down about 2" but the wheels would spin like we were in thick grease. Most places here you would be sitting on rock with the wheels half that deep.I like that orange tractor. Sorry for continuing the hijack.
Reply:By the way , trianglelocke, that is a VERY nice table. Forgot to put it in my first post.My user name says it all. Sometimes I can't remember where I left my hindend. Oh well, I usually find it before the day is over.Last edited by Oldtimer; 08-09-2009 at 10:49 PM.
Reply:Howsa bout a little less than 3 sections and 300 registered mama cows?  It may not be ranching but its sure a helluva lot of work.  I'm thinking about calling my new little welding/furniture making venture midnight metalworks because that seems like about the only time I can get anything done around here.I like your loader, but am really jealous you've got enough moisture to get stuck.  Haying pasture cows in August is a bummer.  We've been knee deep in drought since about last June.
