How much amperage do you guys use for 3/16 CRS? Pure Argon Gas.....What are some general rules of thumb for thickness to amperage?Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 - 6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH
Reply:General rule of thumb for steel is 1 amp per 1 thou thickness for single pass welding.Pure argon is being used because you are doing TIG, right? Don't use pure argon for MIG on steel. So for your 3/16 steel, if you want to get complete penetration and fill in one pass, you would use about 185 amps. Adjust slightly as needed.

Reply:Yep that is what I am talking about....it still has the stacked coil look, it just looks gray and not that pretty "tig" look. Could some of it be from not being super clean? I seem to get spots that just keep getting holes in them, no matter how much I try to fill them.Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 - 6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH |
