Going to practice TIG welding 1/8" 6061 flat stock ALUM (try and run some beads).  Was wondering what electrode and AMP setting I should use?  I have a Miller Sychrowave 200.  Recommend Balance @ 7.0 or Pulse?Thanks.AcademyKP03Miller Sychcrowave 200
Reply:3/32 tungsten red or orange either is fine. Just depends on personal preferance. 1/8 or 3/32 filler is what i would use. set your machine at 150 amps and control it with the foot peddle as needed. Pulse could help you get a rythum down if you set it up right. --Gol'
Reply:Thanksbut I think I'm having problems with the gas flow; it's around 50 and I cant get it to go lower ... am I doing something wrong? (obviously so) also - when I hit the pedal, I hear gas flow coming from behind the SW - like the connection between the gas hose into the SW ... I don't hear anything coming out of my torch -- should I?AcademyKP03Miller Sychcrowave 200
Reply:Yes, you normally can hear gas coming out of the torch.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Yeah, I don't hear anything - might explain why my first welds were so ugly....Well, actually, I can hear something, but its coming from the BACK of the SW 200; not out of the torch .... very loud hissing sounds; but when I go to the connection to see if I feel anything - I don't ... plus, when I try to adjust the flowrate while press the pedal .... nothing changes on the flow .... something is definitely wrong ...AcademyKP03Miller Sychcrowave 200
Reply:You can leak check your gas system by plugging the gas nozzle, actuating the gas solenoid to pressurize the line, and spaying bubble solution (windex works) on the various fittings and torch back cap.
Reply:Also you can crack your cylinder open just long enough to build line pressure then turn it off and watch your gauges to see if they go down. if they do you have a leak. If not then your good in the hood. --Gol'

Reply:It was the gas solenoidWhen I was having the garage wired up for 230V; I took the back panel off; to see about a direct connection; then ended up just splicing - anyways, in the process; disconnected and never reattached the gas solenoid lines!then I welded - and holy ****!  looks a lot better than when I first tried welding!  I'll post pictures of what I came up with ... note:  this is my first time TIG welding (WITH GAS!)AcademyKP03Miller Sychcrowave 200
