This is kind of a random question but i am curious. Can yall show me what kind of boots yall were working on the pipeline. I am in the market for a new pair of boots so if you have any recommendations let me know. I have a pair of tony lama boots that i wear daily that are slip on but dont think there the best thing to wear.
Reply:My slip on steel toed Engineer boots were my favorite during college for welding. I still have them too. I wear RedWings now because my job requires lace-ups, but lace ups suck for welding, if you ask me! The laces always take stray spatter and I go through laces left and right. Spats work a little, but not well enough.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:One more vote for Redwings. If you get your feet measured by some one who knows what they are doing and buy the right insoles (I needed different ones, high arches) They last a long time, I absolutely love my Red Wings. My feet used to kill me at work, I went to a boot store explained what was happening and he gave me these insoles that are actually quite hard. Ya put them in the oven for a sec then throw them in your boots and lace em up quick, the insole molds to your foot. 14 hour days got nothin' on my Red Wings. The only drawback is the lace thing, I always have another set with me.Yup
Reply:I agree 100% on the insole part. I used to go thru a pair of boots about every 6-8 weeks before me back would start killing me and I'd have to get a new pair. Then I got a set of custom inserts and I've been in the same pair going on over a year now with no back issues related to my boots..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I used to wear cheap steel toe boots, opting to spend the saved money on cheap beer and loose women.I learned my lesson after I purchased my first pair of red wings, of course this was after I had become married son no more need for extra money for loose women. Soon I found I had no back pain and feet did not hurt constantly. I have been sticking with them ever since. I get a new pair every two years or so, also keep a pair of regular toe red wings on hand as well for non work things. Also free shoelaces for life!!!!!!all I want in my life are....... white castle cheese burgers
Reply:Do you all wear redwing 6 or 8inch tops?
Reply:Redwing Irish Setter slip ons. Nothing has ever felt better or wore longer on my feet. Wearing lace up boots welding is just asking to get a burn when that red hot blob lands in your shoestrings and you can't get you boot off.

Reply:I like Red Wing Pecos slip ons. Get your foot properly measured and you will be comfortable..............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I've had a pair of redwings for about two years now. Granted, they're not work boots, but I'm seriously thinking about picking up a pair that are once I'm working again!
Reply:I understand the lace issue is a bear to deal with, But I like tight boots and slip ons just dont feel tight enough. When I used to walk Iron, I like to feel the steel and having your foot slip around in a boot, even a little bit, makes me nervous. I buy lace ups, but I always buy boots that have all the sewn over laps going down and never with the sewn front of the boot. (don't know how to describe it). Carolina is a good brand and my the Carharts I have now are excellent! I will try a pair of red wings with the sole support you guys mentioned. And I don't like steel toes. I would rather a smashed toe than a lost toe.Lincoln Ranger 8 Lincoln 175 Drill pressLincoln 225 mig Plasma 8 ft brake 52" jump shear

Reply:I'm with Brainfarth on the Danners.I do a little structural and don't like the loose feel of a slip on. I do try to pay attention to where my feet are 'cuz the stitching can take a beating. I just got one of 2 pair I own back from the cobbler getting resoled and fixed the burned stitching. Reply:I like Wolverine boots with the Dura Shock sole. They are lace ups but I do my best not to get sparks on the laces or my pants. They do make leather covers for them but I have never tried them. I keep an extra pair of laces in my truck just in case. I usually wear out the laces before they ever burn through. I just got a pair of kevlar laces at the local western wear store and I am going to give them a try. I never liked slip ons, just my preference. I like Red Wings also but I like the sole in the Wolverines better. I buy a new pair once a year on Fathers day when they are on sale.My .02Wade

Reply:Red wing all the way, us fat guys need some comfortable boots. Lace ups are nice and tight. But those peco slip ons are pretty awsome too.
Reply:Someone said they don't like steel toes. Well, some of us are REQUIRED to wear them. I don't have a choice. Well, I do have a choice, either wear them or get fired. We also have to wear the 8 inch version for ankle protection. I work on the Union Pacific Railroad Right of Way. If you go to RedWings, they have a list of approved boots for UPRR right there in the store so you don't try to buy something that won't work.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I Have a pair of Cabelas brand Lace to Toe boots. Steel Toe. I Think they are built by danner. I Love them. I Live close to were whites are made. Loggers in my area swear byt hem but i wore them for 3 years and now switched to these and love them.
Reply:ive worn cheap boots, walmart boots, justins, if they are under $100, ive worn them. ive found if i buy cheap boots i get about 6-8 months out of them before i have to get a new pair.I swear by my dock martins now, only downside is i wear a 7.5 and the smallest size is an 8http://academy.com/index.php?page=co...543-00824-1661they even have padding around the ankle bone, an all around great boot in my opinion.I break things for a living...
Reply:Plant I'm at requires metatarsal guards in addition to steel toes. they supply the strap on kind, but I bought boots with the guards built in. Had to do some digging to find met gaurd boots in my size and in my price range. Florshiem size 13 EEE pull on short like a lace up but with elastic top, about $100. I likes 'em.Ranger 250 GXTSmith Gas Axe
Reply:Another vote for Redwings here. Model 4406, steel toe, 6" high, size 13 for myself. Ive had mine going on 3 years now. Nicked the crap out of the toes with a 6" wire wheel, finally broke down and bought a jar of this stuff Id been meaning to try, KG's Boot Guard. Its something akin to Rhino bed liner for rebuilding the toes of boots. Seems to have worked wonders. Made the mistake of leaving the MSDS for the stuff lying around and my mom found it. Apparently its pretty nasty and she wasn't real happy, but thats another story... Haven't tried welding in them yet though, SMAW slag dripping on the rubber toes may prove interesting.Hobart Stickmate LX AC/DC buzzboxLincoln SP-100 MIGMid-size O/A setup with heating tips and cutterJet 5"x6" Horizontal/Vertical BandsawAtlas 15" drill press
Reply:One vote for Danners.I used to bury TV cable and these were the only boots that would hold up. It was their Super Rainforrest boots. I know you said you would be working on a pipeline so I imagine that there will be mud some times. I worked in rain or shine and my feet always stayed dry. A little pricey but worth it!
Reply:Ive always worn steel toe Wellingtons, from either Red Wing, Wolverine, or currently Chippewas.I work as an engineer on a boat, if the crap hits the fan in the middle of the night, or we run a fire and safety drill I need to be able to grab on my boots and go, dont have time to lace up.What goes around, comes around.
Reply:I was a die hard RedWing guy for 10 years till the last pair I had fell apart on me, Thorogood(made in USA with your chouce of sole) for me from now on.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I always like carolinas and White's I have a pair of whites that are about 7 years old and may get the rebuild treatment in four or five years. Once White's has yer measurements and make the patterns they are slightly cheaper. Honestly they are worth every penny. My big feet used to hurt and my back was hurting alot too. got the White's and haven't had to buy another pair.

Reply:I wear steal toe boots on the rail road, have for years and found redwings very stiff, but a long lasting boot, when Cats , catipiller boots came out I tried them and found them very comfortable, especially for walking along trains in the ballist...the fit is very good and their is no break-in time needed, they fit your foot the day you buy them..very comfortable...almost everyone on the railroad is switching to them...I have had some carolina's for years, very good boot also, not as comfortable as Cats..Kansas."if you are not on fire for God now...you will be on fire one day, and that day will last forever and ever and ever".... |
