Latest progress.1/8 stockAmps @ 125 green 3/32 pure tungstenCut some pieces of 1/8 flat stock so that I could butt weld them together.  I was fairly pleased with my work.  Attached pictures; both side.  I took the edges to a grinder and beveled them and then cleaned them up with S/S brush afterward.  I did this a number of times.  I kept burning holes between the pieces; finally, I turned "down" the amps from 150 to 125; and found the welding to be much better.  However, what I did notice that about 3/4 of the way across; it seemed my puddle was getting too wide; believe this to be because I was putting too much heat. Also see that I don't have much gas left; have to wait until tomorrow to get more Argon.  Stuff goes too quickly! Reply:I can see the puddle widening as you say. That is typical as the farther along the weld you go the heat begins to accumulate. As you see the puddle starting to widen start backing off the pedal (if you have one) to  gradually reduce amperage.
Reply:I tried Tiggin aluminum a few years ago, i got a chance to try to again on friday and now i finally get to work in the welding shop at this job ive been working. i went in telling them i need a job but id like to go to the welding shop because its my passion and and what ive been doin for last couple years. so i went in gave it a shot and although i didnt feel 100% satisfied with my welds i picked it up enough to get week to prove myself on the weld department. sorry bout the highjack, but i cant help tellin everyone about it. anyway, what i did when i got home was i went to my welding books and discoverd a couple of things i was doin wrong. i ground the tugnsten wrong first off and the angle between the torch and the filler rod must equal 90 degrees. now i got to get down feeding the filler rod beter so i dont shake too much!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:If you don't have a pedal or torch control try just pulling your torch away from the weld a little but maintain a weak arc. Give the puddle and heat area a little time to cool then back in with the torch and move on. Very similar to controling OA welding.
