Was down at the local Harbor Freight, and saw they had some water pumps on sale - decided to pick up a handful and make a fountain or two.First fountain: Rack is originally a wall filing rack. Bowls are small candy tins, bottom bowl is a bread pan. Pans are drilled on opposite corners for a "zig-zag"waterfall effect. 5/16" aluminum pipe threaded through two lugnuts welded to the sides of the hanging rack, and 7/16" plastic tubing to connect everything.Second fountain: Rack is originally a panholder, with extra struts welded across the back. 5/16" aluminum tubing up the back and through the top of the serving dishbackpiece, 7/16" plastic tubing to connect from pump to top of backpiece. Backpiece held on by square nuts welded into brackets. Basin is small bowl.Should've made that top tube shorter .... oh, well, it works pretty good.
Reply:What kind of sound do you get out of those? I've heard of folks actually tuning fountains and falls for a sound they like.

Reply:my favorite fountain sound is pisss on a drunks foot
Reply:Nice job, it will also make SWMBO happy. For your next fountain you've got to try one of the tilting things that fill up and dump into one below and so on. Alway thought those were cool. That HF Pump can also be used for coolant on your drill press, lathe, or bandsaw. Keep up the great work.
Reply:Sandy, I get some decent sound out of them while running. The 5-tiered one is a little noisy - water between third and fourth dish seems to drip more than stream - and the serving dish is fairly quiet, depending on how much water I have in the bowl. Usually on that one, I try to leave a little gap between the bottom of the plate and the top of the water, so there's a nice running water sound.weldbead and 6010, long as it ain't my boots ........ then again, the sound of a horse or cow pissing on a flat rock is a sound you don't forget easily, either ....200mphbusa, I was thinking about doing one of those later on down the line. i have an idea for a new fountain, a fairly large one, but need to work out some more details. I'll keep you guys informed as to progress, though.

Reply:And as soon as I pick up a drill press, a bandsaw, or a lathe, I should be in good shape ... Right now, all I got is just a MIG, A DeWalt cordless drill, a 4" angle grinder, 3" grinder/polisher, Dremel, and several assorted saws and hand tools.By the way, the 5-tiered one is sold, customer was very happy. (G/f was pissed, she liked it ....)
Reply:Looks like u gonna have to build another one like it. Gotta keep them happy you know ! A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter Victor O/A
Reply:Very creative. The long fountain would look really neat with an addition to the center. A piece of copper that had ridges like a fan would be nice.Nice work
Reply:My next fountain is still in the planning/building stages. Am taking a bunch of old pots, pans, measuring cups, etc, and creating a cascading circular fountain around a tower base. Hafta take a run back over to HF and pick up a big pump motor for it - the thing's nearly 6' tall, and the smaller motors ain't gonna cut it ...Already have something in the planning for the g/f. I picked up some stainless ice cream bowls that look like metal martini glasses. Not sure if I'm going to make it a hanging fountain or an end-table fountain yet, though ....Last edited by SpyGuy; 09-07-2009 at 08:00 PM. |
