I'm hoping somebody can shine light on the subject of determining what size air hose im  going to need . I'll be using a arcair k3000 w/10ft cable the compressors specs are 7.5hp, 80 gallon, 25.25 acfm and 175 max psi. I currently don't have the k3000 to see what size air hose and cable their using and don't see sizes listed any where online. Also besides the air hose does anybody know what size power cable im going to need to order to pair it with the supplied 10' cable? thanks.
Reply:I have a K3000 and a great user manual I found here. Unfortunately, you'll have to search for it here because my computer that has it is down. For air, the manual says minimum of 3/8". However, I use 1/2" because I have them. You can actually get a Goodyear brand 1/2" red rubber hose from Harbor Freight. They used to have them on sale often. Your compressor is ideal. You will want to regulate pressure down to 80psiThe power cable is another story. It depends on size of carbon and distance. That torch will burn up to a 3/8" carbon which will require 450 - 600 amps. When I researched it, I found I would need to get 50', 4/0 leads. I just played around with a 5/16" carbon pushing 350 - 400 amps thru my 50', 1/0 leads. I wasn't doing much and it handled it, but I would imagine I would smoke them if I did a big job. But if you have the machine for it, I think you should go with the max size you would ever need, just in case.I don't know if you have ever used one, but they are awesome. I describe it like using a plasma, but having the ability to control the depth. Watch for posts by DavidR, he uses one often and always posts the carbon size and amperage info."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I don't like anything smaller than 1/2" for carbon arcing. 3/4" for long hose runs. You don't say what size machine you'll be using, or how much amperage you expect to push, but for all but the most extreme cases a 1/0 lead can handle most of what I do.
Reply:I would see about having a 10' 2/0 stinger and a 10' 3/8" air hose whip made up. these would be permantly attached to the brass connector at the end of the power cable. See if your lws can make these up for you as far as crimping the ends on.
Reply:machine is a trailblazer 302
Reply:thanks for all the responses its very appreciated
Reply:Today my son was scarfing off a cutting edge with 5/32 electrodes.  V350 was set on CAC gouge  250 amps.  I was watching the ampmeter while he cut away.  It was from 70 to 300.   I could hear when it was working well.   He then held up about 5" of glowing red carbon.  I gave him some 1/4" rods.   They lasted a lot longer but I saw 400 amps on the machine.  I went out and checked the demand meter.  6KW peak.  All on a 50 amp new circuit.  About 80 PSI.   Gauge on regulator does not work, we just set it so it cuts  best.   15cfm compressor is running all the time but never runs out.Pics tomorrow.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
