Bought three little rolling carts/trays at a yard sale a few weeks ago so thought I'd use one to make a rolling cart for the chop saw. All it consisted of was the tray w/ casters(two stationary and two swivel) I plan on priming it w/ "Flood's Penetrol". One of our members,I can't remember who, posted a thread about it several months ago, so thought I'd give it a try. I used it a couple of weeks ago on another metal project as a primer and it sure made a good smooth surface for the paint to bond to. I tried mixing it w/ the paint also, but it didn't seem to eliminate the brush marks too well, so I just shot it w/ the air sprayer. It turned out looking real good. I'll see how this turns w/ the paint. Reply:Cool Project, I could certainly use something like that.... I get tired of lifting and moving mine.About the PENETROL,.. do you plan on using that 'right over the rust' ? Can it be used like that, or are you going to strip that baby down to bare metal ? I'm assuming that most people grind down the metal first. I do however, remember reading a post stating that the PENETROL was basically 'inert' and it would eliminate, or at least slow down the rusting process so drastically that once sealed and painted, you wouldn't have to worry about rust for a few decades ! Do you or anyone else know if there is any truth to that ?Cheers,/Jman...
Reply:I'm sure I read once that Penetrol is no good under epoxy?Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:A rewarding project that returns dividends every time you use it. I too recently built a table for my saw and what an incredible difference it makes having the saw easily moved about and up at a good working height. That old cart you have would convert well to a "hopper" style table. Just cut a big hole under the saw for the cuttings to fall through and "box" in under the table top to collect everything. Makes cleanup much easier, and after I sweep the floor I dump it in the hopper. Here is my table for better reference of what I mean.
