Bar Ash Tray

Up here in New York, you cannot smoke in bars anymore. With the way they do the gas plumbing today, I almost don't blame them. Ha-ha.This bar in particular had a lot of leaks. We mercury tested it and it fell to zero inches from about 12 inches, in under a minute. It was like that for years. The place next door kept calling the local gas company until they turned off the gas. It needed to be re piped, the leak was in the wall, that separates the two stores. But they needed a garbage can cover with an ash tray. I cheated a bit. I used the fact that a power roller, causes a slight flat in the material when you roll it. To create that starting flat that will fit over the garbage can. Once I cut and rolled the four pieces. I just held them in the right position and mitered them, on a chop saw. Welded them up in a few minutes.   In under ten minutes gave them a nice polish job with a stainless tooth brush wire brush, and some Flitz polishing cream and floppy thing. Reply:With the Flitz, when you get done with the floppy thing. You have to get a clean towel, and by hand go over it to shine it up. It really does not shine until you use a towel to get off all the black metal and powdered compound. That ash tray gets beach sand put into.        Sincerely,             William McCormick

Reply:Wow,That is one good looking Ash Tray !I've got about 200 sq feet of that diamond plate here that I need to do something with....  An Ash Tray like that seems like a great place to start (I could use the practice...).Curious, is that Ashtray made from 5 pieces ?  I'm assuming that the bottom is of heavy Gauge AL. and is folded up in the corners and then welded in the corners only ?  Are the top pieces then added ?Sorry for the questions, but I'm a NEWB...  Cheers,  /Jman...
