**attention pipe welders**I am wanting to build a new spooling wheel  for my rig and I am sure some of you guys have dreamt up some pretty slick outfits.  Would love to see some pics, sure everyone else would too! Thanks
Reply:Ummm......I'm pretty sure that the O.P.  is looking for pictures of "Roll Out Wheels" for spooling pipe, and not cable reels...Just what I understood from the O.P. singling out "Pipe Welders".The ones that I have used are Barbaric, so I would like to see pictures as well.Have a Good Day.Later,Jason
Reply:Very sorry - May be a difference in terminology between the US, and Canada..."Up Here" when the boys weld out short runs of pipe they "spool" the pipe /  Spin the pipe / Weld out the pipe, on a roll out wheel....With that in mind, I understood the OP about a means of clamping onto a flange, or fitting, and having the ability to rotate it, as it is welded out,  and commented about a "Roll Out Wheel"The nicer ones are made using 4"or 8" chucks that have been taken out of service on lathes, and adapted to be used on the back of trucks. The "Barbaric"one I use at work is a 24"diameter circle scribed into quadrants, that is welded onto a 1-1/4"shaft, and suspended by bearings.  It has slots cut in it to bolt on flanges, and is mounted on a pedestal that fits into a 4"square pocket on the corner of my work bench.I am pretty sure that the bearings and housings came from Princess Auto - Definitely built as cheaply as possible.Suprised it isn't John Deere Green. I am on the East Coast for another two weeks, but I will post up pics of the beast when I get back to the shop.If any of my pipelining buddies are in town, I will try to get pics of their setups as well.Later,Jason
Reply:that is a much better explanation of a spooling wheel than mine black wolf.  thanks for the replies everyone, look forward to seeing some pics wolf.- never thought to use a chuck, good idea -
Reply:these is the way i spin pipe. i hope this is kind of what you are talking about Attached Images
Reply:Keys, Can I see more pictures of your tail gate and supports. ThanksDan
Reply:yes it is!  thanks for the pics keys. i like the hinge. that must come in really handy for fitting up.  does the hinge lock in the "up" position?very cool design - i guess you don't need a [I]wheel[I] to spool pipe - channel looks like it works just fine.thanks again
