I am looking into to a wire feeder for field projects. (general on-site fabrication and structural welding)
first: if my power source is a Miller trailblazer 302 do I need to use a Miller feeder? Second, could someone please explain to me the practical difference between Miller SuitCase RC and Miller SuitCase VS?
Reply:I run a lincoln suitcase with my miller trailblazer with no problems at all. Infact everyone at work here has Miller trailblazers or pipepro and lincoln suitcases. Dont know why that is probably a price thing. lets see if I remember correctly.. RC is remote control used with CV sources, voltage is set at feeder VS is voltage sensing and can be used with CC/CV machines, voltage is set a power source.
Reply:I run a Hobart Hefty, off my Trailblazer. They work just like an LN-25, or a 12VS, but the price on a used one is peanuts.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:I have to agree with Tozzi.. for the price the feeder can't be beat... I use mine about 18 hours a week off my Trailblazer... I have an Extreme feeder but have had lots of problems.. so went back to the hobart feeder..
Reply:I have 2 LN-25 and have used a hefty. Off a gas drive they work just your shop mig welder. On all of them the electrode was always hot. You get used to it. I could wire one to my ranger 250 so the welder turns the power on when you pull the trigger. Reply:A VS wire feeder on a CC power: The current is set at the power source and voltage is set by the Electrical Stick Out (ESO) or wire feed speed. JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:On constant current, the wire feeder tries to control the voltage with wire speed. On Constant voltage, the power supply controls the voltage. The wire feeder just feeds the wire at the preset rate. My LN9-gma has a speed sensor so it can make up for drag.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

I had been under the impression that I would have to use a miller feeder with a miller machine, and it is very welcome news that I have more options. Does anyone have any advice on the best place to look into finding a Hobart Hefty? I have heard the best things about the LN-25, but the price is way up there

Reply:Both of my LN-25s are almost 20 years old. Maybe there is a reason they are a little pricey. One I bought new for $1,000.00 The other one I bought used from my dad for $600. You can't tell them apart.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I also have a LN-22 that looks like R2-D2, and will only run flux core Lincoln wire on the open center 14 pound rolls, that is great to just keep in the gang box. Wire for it can be a lil' pricy though.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
