I am the one that says "If you want it to look like TIG, the get out the torch". These are bucket shanks. Pulsed spray mig, .035 @ 250 ipm or .045 @ 200 ipm wire, 92/8 gas. Its a big gap, the shanks have a bevel and there is a gap between the shank and cutting edge. I went ahead and back as I went along. Welds are on a small incline, I went up.I don't have a dime, but the cutting edge is 3/4" for scale.Last edited by David R; 01-10-2008 at 10:46 PM.Real world weldin. Reply:Those look good. Pictures tend to take away some of the beauty of nice mig welds, so spot on Mr. R.Miller Syncrowave 200Hobart Handler 140Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38E-Z Tube BenderPlasma Cam DHC2

Reply:Dang... You are to that big stuff, what ZAP is to the little stuff. I'm skeered to crank my machine up that high, all that bangin' and clangin' goin' on inside the welder. My squirrels would be trippin' over each other trying to spin the wire out that fast! The best things in life all come on a stick!
Reply:A forward whip, you can get the same result without the pulse. Gravity and a steady twitch. You sure are loving that new board. Maybe I never really gave pulse a chance to like it, I just prefered doing it manually.Edit; BTW, looks good as usual !!Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:Nice welding Dave. I pulsed the last set of shanks the I welded on a track hoe bucket I rebuilt. I was kinde playing around and we runing 450ipm of .045 er-70 wire on my 350P and it looked good as well as penetrated great. Let me know about the metal core wire I have used it on non pused mig and it was ok but I want to try it on pulse.Today I started a 26' aluminum sliding gate and had a blast welding with the pulsed MIG. Everbody should try it out and give it time enough to learn how to use it. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. Reply:Hard case. Over in the south seas here we call them adapter's and would put another three runs on there at least, and no I'm not saying there wrong, in fact nice looking welds...I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:Those shanks are way too big for the bucket. Today My son and I are doing a BUNCH more. There is a chamfer on the shank About 45*, and 3/8 wide. All the welding is done in between the shank and cutting edge. There is also a gap between the shank and cutting edge. Its a big gap. I put a piece on 1/8" tig filler in the bottom of one to help keep the weld in one place. The wire rolled under the shank and stayed there. More pics today. Offrdfun73 The metal core wire did not come in yesterday I have 1/2 of a 30 lb coil of .045 dualshield, then its .045 bare wire pulse spray mig for the rest. DavidReal world weldin. Reply:nice looking welds I get to do some of those about every other year, used'to do them with a oa tourch and stick about a days worth of work for 5 , now with the plazma cutter and wire feed I can do 5 in about 2 hours ,this is on a 24" bucket with 3/8 welds.i use a nickel sized forward and backaround stroke withmiller 250 cranked way up and wire speed to fit almost to a spray. havent had one brake yet.Life is tuff,so be sharp lincoln sp 100 cutmaster101 miller bobcat miller 250 mig $thousands in snapon
Reply:Wirehunt I have done 3 sets for a guy here and the box had in big black letters "shank". The bigest bucket was 40" wide and had 6 shanks. It is on a 175hp track hoe and he digs in rock all day because that is all we have and he told me I was the only person to ever weld them on for him that they did not break off in 3 months. This one has lasted for 6 months and no craks. Steel Thunder Welding LLC.
