Being the times that we are all seeing right now a man has to do what he can with what he's got! I figured I'd post this up because I've seen a lot of great innovation here. I've acquired a few woodworking tools over the years and needed a way to adapt some of them to my needs in the welding shop. Here's a hack I decided to do on a portable belt sander. Reply:looks really good, id probabally add some support to the botom or handle of the sander, but thats just because i tend over engineer things.

Reply:dang, I thought of that already and other things like it!!! I couldn't figure out how to secure the sander though.
Reply:Thank ya Mr Conley! That's a much appreciated comment coming from you. I've been admiring your work for some time now.Silverado thank you for your comment also! I may add some support on the bottom of the handle in the future but as of right now the use it gets is pretty limited. Now it gets most of it's action sharpening drill bits.Giddy thank you for your comment! It's a MM 180 and I really like it considering it's what I could afford. Lots of capabilities for the little machine but time will tell.Angus take it and run with it brother! As far as I can see this is the place to share and grab ideas!Ken thank you too. I just used what was there. I removed the forward handhold from the sander and used it for the mounting plate on the frame. My wife says I think too much!Seeing your child exceed your expectations through a spark you created is the most wonderful feeling in the world!Miller Syncrowave 250 Millermatic 180Too much other stuff to list!
Reply:those belt sanders are tough. The druggies and jocks drop and abuse them in woodshop, and they still work.
Reply:i built a stand for my belt sander similar to yours, but i like yours better. your shelf is adjustable. i was in a hurry and threw something together. good work.
Reply:Do ya use this for metal ? How do the belts hold up, or do they make one that is more suitable ?
Reply:llamafur... I have to agree. They are tough little belt sanders for the price. I've used it for a lot of woodwork and now this and it's still going strong!Scott... It took me awhile to get that one together because I had several diff projects goin on at the time but I def wanted to have the adjustable shelf. Thanks!Sandy... I use it mostly for sharpening drill bits and some light duty finish work. The belts I use hold up pretty good but I'm sure it's just like any other abrasives....ya get what ya pay for! I'm sure there are some cheap vertical belt sanders out there but I had this one and the metal was all scrap that I had collected so it was a fun project and just cost me my time!Seeing your child exceed your expectations through a spark you created is the most wonderful feeling in the world!Miller Syncrowave 250 Millermatic 180Too much other stuff to list!
Reply:hehe, thats really slick
Reply:you may want to get that shelf closer to the belt. if the distance is big enough, the sander can suck work down into the gap and turn your thumbs into nubs before you blink |
