Can The Voltage Scale Also Be Read As An Ampreage Scale ? Manual States That The Output Is 30-210 - Useing This As A Baeline Then The Number 1 Would = 30 Amps & #2 Would = 50 Amps - Adding 20 Amps To Each Step Would Equal At #10 = 210 Amps - ? - Is This In The Ballpark Or Plum Out In Left Field. Thanks
Reply:Out in left field. Voltage does not adjust amp, wire speed does. Asking ?? Is good but you need to look up this info and study up. As you are seeing on this forum that people are realizing it may be worth while to take a class.
Reply:Voltage and current are independent variables. Combined, they allow you to adjust power, the energy input into the weld per unit time.XMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
Reply:Thanks For The Input - #1 Mr. Jay O , I Don't Understand How Changing Wire Speed Would Change Amperage ? - #2 Mr. Wirehead - I Understand That Voltage & Amperage Are Independant But Combined It Allows You To Adjust Your Output Amperage ? - Which I Think Falls Back To Changing The Voltage Scale Also Changes The Output Amperage
Reply:And if you took a welding class, you would realize you are wrong. Wire speed is amps.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"

Reply:con_fused9 answer is plenty good. In school the simple example given to us was that volts equals pressure and amps(wire speed) equals flow.
Reply:Thanks con_fuse9 - This Helps An Old Man Understand It Somewhat -  Just A Little Background Here - When I Started Their Was No School For Welding In Small Towns - Had 2 Local Weldshops -  Most Of The Old Garage's Used A Torch And Coathanger To Put Exhaust Pipe Together - Some Brazeing With A Torch - - Anything Else Done With A Stick Welder - When I Started Work In A Factory I Was Handed A Mig Gun And Told To Keep Production Running - Their Were No School Taught Welders In The Factory To Ask How To Do This - That Was Back Before All The Testing And Certifaction Was Required - My Welder At Work Then And Now ( same one ) Was What I Call An Industrial Welder 460V 3PH Running A Separte Wire Feeder - 60# Rolls Of .045 Wire - At That Time We Used C02 For Gas - I Was Welding On Air Tanks - Anywhere From 30Gal To 240 Gal - I Put The Feet And Bases On Them -  My Public Working Days Are About Over - Just Trying To Understand These New Little Welders - And By The Way We Didn't Have Computers To Find Information On -                         Thanks From An Old Man

Reply:Do this too. No need to make a crash course out of the huge volumes of info available but on bad weather days when you don't feel like watching crappy TV things like these help fill in the blanks. It can all be sort of overwhelming at the start but eventually starts to come together. http://www.esabna.com/EUWeb/MIG_handbook/592mig1_1.htmhttp://www.esabna.com/EUWeb/AWTC/Lesson7_15.htmIf you're learning is for hobby purposes then don't make this painfull, proceed slowly but learning what and why things are the way they are is part of the enjoyment."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Thanks Sandy Went Back And Done Some More Research On This Little Unit. This Is A Constant Voltage (cv) Unit - In Other Words It Holds A Set Voltage So The Wire Speed Is Used To Control The Resistance - Higher Wire Speed  = More Resistance Or Higher Amps - - So If This Is Correct, I Need To Figure Out The Wire Speed Scale ( 10 - 100 ) vs Amps At A Given Speed - Holding The Wire At A Set Distance To The Metal I Know This Sounds Like A Lot Of Nonsense To A Lot Of People - But I Have Always Tryed To Figure This Kind Of Stuff Out Thanks Again From An Old Man - Wont Bother Yall Again With This Question - But Their May Be Others - I've Always Got Questions - That How I Learn
