I was ordering a bunch of gas cones and contact tips and saw weldingdepot has ER70S-2 tig filler.  I have never used it, so I bought a couple of pounds of 3/32  I did some flat fillets, some vertical up and over head.  The filler is "thicker" or less viscous or it has a less fluid puddle.  In each position the -6 filler made a more concave (bad) bead.   With the -2, the metal didn't follow the heat as well.    The -6 makes for a wetter puddle,  The -2 makes for a fuller bead.1/8" plate, T overhead weld, 150 amps (plenty) 3/32 red, pure argon......-6-2-6There is a difference, with the -2 I could see more silicon (glass) islands and the bead was "dull" in finish before I took a wire wheel to it.  I tried to show bead profile in the last pics.  The -6 was more concave.DavidLast edited by David R; 01-22-2008 at 06:26 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:This is the -2 done flat or up fillet I can't remember, took too many pics.  See the "slag".Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:ER70S-2 tig filler. I have never used it,
Reply:He used it and didn't know it damnit!David - excellent illustrations lately of the various "tools" available to the weldor. Thanks.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:And what you've stated is exactly the reason why chassis guys use 70s2 instead of 70s6.  Because the s2 is less fluid, it makes for a TIG puddle that is easier to control, especially when welding out of position, i.e, most of the time, in an automotive environment.
Reply:DAYM!  I was welding aluminum....Stitch weld or was it stainless?    David Soupe, now I have both.  My LWS has "tig rod what size do you want?"  The -2 is different.  It seemed like I had to run it hotter to get it to flow.  The end of the overhead dropped a big ball on the floor, obvously I had it too hot.  I don't know if I like it yet and at weldingdepot.com, it costs more than the -6.  Time will tell.It seems the -6 follows me where ever I go, but I have to push or coax the puddle with the -2.DavidLast edited by David R; 01-22-2008 at 08:43 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
