Ok, well I am in the process of repairing one "core" out of a multiple core cast iron steam radiant heater. There is a crack that runs from the bottom of one side up around and about 12" on the other side. I've drilled the ends, beveled the edges, and welded it with NI-99 filler rod. Now the problem is, it's not 100% sealed. The flame that heats this is right underneath it, and so I need something that is high enough temperature to withstand that flame AND seal it air tight. Would brazing over the NI-99 be a good idea? Withstand the temperature of the flame and seal it up? Other ideas/suggestions? Will be running into a time crunch here shortly. Thanks. Reply:Brazing would be fine. Heat the whole thing first and cool it slowly. Cracking is your biggest problem.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
