Reply:Really nice sculpture. The finish looks great. Did you run into any insurance issues with all the sharp edges and climbability. I know for the sculptures we build liability is a huge factor. Just curious.Once again really nice work. CheersJosh
Reply:That's really cool RAW. I love stuff like that. What type of paint do you use on something like that since it has to stand up to the elements?Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 Stick Linde HDA-300 MillerMatic DVI MIG Miller Dynasty 200DX Hypertherm Powermax 1000
Reply:Josh,For insurance, I just have my LLC insurance plus the Arboretum has insurance for the piece for the duration of the show.Actually, if you could PM me some more info about the types of things you go through at your job, I'd really appreciate it.  I've got an entertainment lawyer to help me through a lot of that stuff, but . . . notes from the field will help too.Carl, the paint is an automotive grade paint.  First there's an etching primer, then the Sunrise Pearl (house of kolor) paint, then a UV-protectant clear-coat.

Reply:I'm going to dig this one out from under a very old rock.Nice work Raw. I remember seeing this there.I've done a little work at the Arboretum myself.I did the rails for phase 1 of the Bon Sai garden and pavillion.(for another shop, not mine)A good friend, and sometimes co worker did the rails on that big bridge visible behind you in some of those shots. (I forget if the outfit he worked for did the bridge as well)Another associate did a lot of the rail near the quilt garden.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]'s STILL a cool piece .....Hot rod influence for me ...... especially that pic of it being built in the shop where it's laying facedown.  Makes the pipes look like zoomie exhausts.  Then again, I could easily see this as a frame for a Rat Fink custom rod, too .......
Reply:That thing is pretty cool! I like it!
Reply:That's the beautiful thing about abstract or representational ART !  It CAN be anything that the individual viewer 'interprets' it to be....What a GREAT piece !  When a sculpture such as this one evokes emotion and/or probes the senses, you know you did a GREAT job...Congrats !/Jman...

Reply:Thanks for all of the comments, y'all. For some reason I haven't been receiving emails about the posts (better check my settings).Unfortunately, I haven't been able to work on anything new since then.  All of my energy has been going into our new house construction up in WNC.  But pretty soon, I'll be starting to make some furniture and lighting fixtures for the new house!I have entered this piece for a call from USM for their Centennial Celebration.  I hope to hear back about it soon.
