It was a pipeliners truck and it was just to short. I put lead boxes in the side and stainless 3/8 rod around the top just to look cool. ohh yea and a goose neck hitch and the tabs over the rear lights. DODGE IS NUMBER ONE IN MY BOOK! I also have a 1999 2500 cummins! V8 Chevy 2500.  Chains on the box are temp.Going to look at welding machines this Friday, and plan to mount both the box and machine to a skid of some form or another that sits in the box.  Bottles to come later, when I have...oh I dunno, money.  One piece at a time!
Reply:ya i used to weld out of my 1999 2500 but i got so tired of beating up my bed with my bottlles and leads. but also i sold the little bobcat 250 that i had at the time (big mistake it was a great lil welder!) so i needed to find another truck and my contractor called me the next day and said he found me one bad *** truck and wanted me to come look at it so i did and paid cash for it the next week. Rigged it out and went back to work.2001 dodge 3500 with custom bed, 1995 miller 44dlx welder and all the equipment any welder needs! Soon to come a Miller pipe pro 304 with a 12rc feeder!

Reply:Twin turbos and pretty paint won't make you a quarter more.Invest your extra money in tools to ease your workload.
Reply:[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]These are a couple pics, they arent that great. Thats my 96 F350 7.3(lots of mods), i made the bed thats on it, the hardest thing was mounting the fuel tank filler necks. the last pic is when i first finished it, maby ill take some new ones tomorrow-NateMiller Trailblazer 302gMiller Spoolmatic 30aLN-25 x 2Idealarc SP200Hypertherm Powermax 600
Reply:Ya sure man i will post a pic like next week cuz right now im in my personal "crusin" truck. lol. And as far as the twin turbos go they're something that was on it when i got it and i would have never spent 4500 on twind for this truck. Actually what happened is i got for truck for really cheap cuz the 24 valve cummins was driven really hard and eventually chunked a rod. So i did alil searching and about two days after i got the truck i had a friend that lived in alpine tx getting rear ended in his 1997 3500 4x4 by a freakin mack truck seriously and insurance totaled his truck and we bought it back for almost nothing and i swapped out the motor. Its all parts that were previously on it but i did scrounge up a factory box style air filter and i was gunna put smaller factory injectors in it but believe me or not at 75mph with all my equipment on the back i average like 22.5 miles to the gallon! Its better than my 99. The 97 12 valve has industrial injection 120hp injectors and an upgraded p-pump with a custom fuel plate made for towing, also the bd towing twin turbo kit and exhaust manifold plus a south bend twin disc clutch. So far i have towed a backhoe a Case 580K Construction King (that actually belonged to me at the time!) with a 40ft dovetail goose neck and a whole crapload of metal! like 3500lbs worth plus my machine and all my junk and i traveled 120 miles one way in which 35 miles of that were horribly graded dirt road and 2 monsterous hills! And on the highway i could eaisly do 85 which is alil fast with all that equipment and weight but it never got hot and my egt's stayed way down because of the twins, but anyways i got a filler neck and now im just savin alil cash to buy a new paintjob for it! RED ALL THE WAY! And ohh ya HELL YA MILLER ALL THE WAY! My Pipe pro 304 will look great on it too cuz im getting the one with the stainless stell apperance package!2001 dodge 3500 with custom bed, 1995 miller 44dlx welder and all the equipment any welder needs! Soon to come a Miller pipe pro 304 with a 12rc feeder!
Reply:Have you ever thought of using a service body? If you plan on carrying around alot of tools and supplies, thats the way to go.
Reply:It all really depends on what type of work you are planning on doing most of.
Reply:service bodys are pretty darn expensive, and its hard to find used ones that arent rotted out. id take one in a second if i got the right deal-NateMiller Trailblazer 302gMiller Spoolmatic 30aLN-25 x 2Idealarc SP200Hypertherm Powermax 600
Reply:Frazier, Hey man I know how hard it is going out on your own.  I am 25 and just went out on my own last month.  I've been welding pipe for a refrigeration company here in Hazleton, Pa for the last month.  Are you certified? Structural? Pipe?  If not, get those certs.  What type of welding are you looking to get into?  I need to take a couple of pictures of the truck.  It's a 2003 F-550 with the 7.3L.  I'll post a couple pictures tomorrow.
Reply:How much manifold pressure are you running on the Cummins? The 12-valve will easily take 40-45 PSI if properly intercooled and fueled. It'll make enough power to pull away from your average early-90s 5.0 Mustang...loaded with tools with the AC on and a trailer behind you! It's just hilarious when you dust some punk that thinks his car's fast with a Diesel pickup.I can't wait to get the first one of these in the shop to see what they can really do- www.carbonmotors.com
Reply:My 7.3 PowerStroke(modified of course) in a 10,000 pound truck is quicker than most wannabe street racers. When I was 17 I had an F-250 and a Linclnwelder 225, thats how I got started.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I can peg boost in this truck all the way to well over 55psi but i regulate it down to around 40 because i dont have head studs and im not lookin to win no race (even though this things hauls serious A$$!) But i have passed my 6g on 2" XX and it was pretty easy i thought, next i believe im goning to star practicing on my 1" plate test just to see if i can pass it. I love welding so far but i wouldnt mind being in school but in august i will start my basics here in midland. I like welding on my own because it shows some people that even though im only 18 i can still work and weld like guys that have been on the job for 10 years plus. And not only that but i just love doing what im doing i wouldnt trade it for anything even if the money wasnt as good as what it is welding id still do it just because i have arc fever! lol. this is off the subject but im fixen to get a tatoo of a welder thats all bones welding with a stick and having a pancake hood on and flames all around him. Anyone have any cool tats or ideas? Ohh and ya its pretty funny stompin some **** head kid in his mustang but lol i dont have much room to talk since i own a 1991 GT mustang and its got a 351 in it now but maybe one day a 427 stroker. Plus i just put stcks on my 1999 dodge and wow theyre so bad *** man! one of these day im gunna build me a welding rig with bullhauler stacks on just because they look and sound so dang cool! Thanks guys2001 dodge 3500 with custom bed, 1995 miller 44dlx welder and all the equipment any welder needs! Soon to come a Miller pipe pro 304 with a 12rc feeder!and on the subject of utility beds. I dont like them at all because for one i like to work on the back of my bed when i can and two i just dont like how non heavy duty they are plus the possibility of rusting.  dunno maybe im just weird but i did have a friends who have his beveling machine and a whole lot of other stuff stolen from his truck because they pried the utility doors open and robbed him blind. If anyone wants to get in my stuff without a key its seriously gunna take a torch and alot of work. But who knows maybe im just crazy lol.2001 dodge 3500 with custom bed, 1995 miller 44dlx welder and all the equipment any welder needs! Soon to come a Miller pipe pro 304 with a 12rc feeder!
Reply:Mustang?....just did some fab and elelctrical work on a 2004 Cobra that made 24PSI with a Kenne Bell 3.8L blower on top of the 32V 388CID modular V8. It made 830 HP at the rear wheels! It was SUPPOSED to go to Bonneville in 2007 to try to take the land speed record for production supercharged class, but some dildo installed the oil cooler lines backwards and lunched the engine about 2 miles into the run. NO...I didn't do it. Oh well, he's just gonna use it on the street now.
Reply:You could fab a service body.  I think if you worked out of a bed like that you'd never go back.  I bought a retired light co. truck '86 GMC K3500 4x4 for $2500 and loved that truck.  The older Knaphiede beds are VERY heavy duty.  The bed floor was 1/4" diamond plate as well as the bumper. The rest was 12GA galvanized (no rust).  Empty weight was 8600lbs.Anything can be fabricated on-site. Truth is fabricated online.

Reply:If you are looking for a nice work truck for lots of tools get a cab over box truck with long frame.  I had one when I was doing stage lighting with a 100kW generator (kinda like a welder  LOL ) mounted behind the cab but before the box.  It was nice, all the gear was inside the box out of the weather.Me!
Reply:i acutally thought about that but instead of putting the welder behind the cab putting a fuel tank with a propane tank on top but that would be like driving a freakin battle ship man. lol2001 dodge 3500 with custom bed, 1995 miller 44dlx welder and all the equipment any welder needs!
