Reply:I don't have any pics but I mounted one on a piece of 1/2" plate then used two u-bolts to attach it to the cross pipe single u-bolt to attach it to the vertical support between the bed and the cross pipe If I ever need to take it off, I just have to remove 6 nuts.
Reply:got the winch today do you think 3/16 plate will do Attached Images
Reply:3/16 seems too light to go with anything that says 8500 pounds.....

Reply:It's fairly easy to mount the winch to resist straight line pullThe problem arises from non straighline pull. Anytime the cable is at other than a straight angle from the winch it can cause uplift problems.I modified this winch years ago. It's set up to be competely portable (yeah right, around 100lbs worth of portable). It's set up to be anchored with a chain to anything strong enough to hold it. The main thing I noticed is that the winch will want to lift off the trailer deck, or ground, and line itself out with the cable when pulling. Not a problem in my case, but does indicate the amount of force your mount has to resist to keep the winch on the deck of the trailer.I believe your looking at another cross member under the ramp side of the winch, or connecting existing cross members fore and aft with channel to form a bridge. Then you have steel structure under the floor to resisit uplift.Alternatively, you could build out a mount on top of the tongue in some fashion, where access is easier for welding.Mostly though, the important thing to remember that the angle of pull changes constantly in all directions as the object rolls up the ramps, and comes closer to the winch. Reply:Damn, Sam... That thing looks like something out of the Flintstones... like something ole Fred would be using at the quarry! I'll bet she "Gits er dun" though, and no batteries to worry about.Work HARDER, not smarter! ------------------------ Miller Bobcat 250Millermatic 251Lincoln Precision TIG 185Hypertherm PM 600Hobart 135 HandlerOxweld 400 FlameMaster
Reply:I don't personally have a trailer with a winch, but have access to two that I can borrow when needed. Both of them have the winch and battery box mounted on a bridge/plate assembly across the tongue. If you went that route, you would probably want to remove that center vertical support on the front rail, and replace it with two, evenly spaced to either side. The cable would have plenty of room to run straight down the middle then.Work HARDER, not smarter! ------------------------ Miller Bobcat 250Millermatic 251Lincoln Precision TIG 185Hypertherm PM 600Hobart 135 HandlerOxweld 400 FlameMaster
Reply:Pictures of winch mount on my car trailer - bought trailer receiver from junkyard cheap, welded to frame. Great cause it's sturdy plus I can remove the winch and mount it on the front or rear of my pickup plus put it in the garage for safekeeping. Attached Images |
