I have been saving up for a Tig which means another cart and more bottles. My mig cart is heavy with two 125 tanks, plasma, and some extra junk. I still have to change a few things that only worked out in theory. I have thought about mounting the tanks along a wall and running a hose with quick disconnects (air line stuff). I know it sounds dumb, but like the way welding carts look with the tanks on them. So what do you guys do? On the cart or fixed somewhere else?
Reply:Yes... My migs have the cylinders usually on the cart with them, as I move the unit about the shop to work. My tig is stationary, so the cylinder is wall mounted in this case. In the few cases I need the 100% argon with the mig, right now I either simply move the mig over where the hose can reach the stationary cylinder and use it that way. ( with a 25' spoolgun I've got plenty of reach 95% of the time) or on rare occasions, I'll dismount it and install it on the cart or tie it off near where I'm working. The O/A set at the shop is stationary, I simply unroll the hose needed to reach where I have to work most times. I can put both cylinders on a hand cart if I do need to move the large set of cylinders for some reason. The small set ( 75cf and 100cf) is almost always on the cart and portable unless I need to steal the cart for some other reason.I've thought about using air style QD's on my suitcase and the reg for that, but so far I haven't had enough work to justify the expense.  probably will go that route when I get the Bobcat soon. Also I've had mixed results over the years with air fittings on air tools. There's always a chance of leak if the fittings are pulled the wrong way.Last edited by DSW; 12-24-2011 at 10:44 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I keep my 336 of 75/25 chained to the wall, and lay the flexible line behind some tooling/shelves on it's way to my suitcase feeder which is beside my workbench.  If I need more than the 15' of reach the gun gives, I just flip the line out and I've got another 30' of movement.  My shop is small - 36' x 48', so I've got more than enough room to work and leave the bottle chained to the wall. There are times it would be nice to have a cart to consolidate it all, but since I'm mostly doing mobile work I've never bothered to build one.
